Club EQ Album: February 2004 Challenge: Drunkard's Path! Page 7

Design a quilt with a block from the Drunkard's Path book (1 Classic Pieced) or from the Fans book (2 Contemporary Pieced) in the EQ5 Block Library. Or you may design your own block that has a square with a curved corner patch like the Drunkard's Path. The blocks in your quilt should have this Drunkard's Path block or variation as the primary (majority) block but you may introduce other complementary blocks.

Jungle Flower

Layout from Library Stars--13. Block from Contemporary Pieced--Floating Fan. My goal was to experiment with using layouts from library and to try out border options. Borders are still a struggle, but I have learned lots. Kirsten Yee, Burnaby, BC

Sunset Beauty

An exercise to force me to work with on point layouts with sashing, as well as sizing borders. Large plain areas in center and border are for quilting. Design ideas came from several magazine pictures I have saved. Kirsten Yee, Burnaby BC

Which way did they go?

This is not the drunkest path I made, but the other ones were too off kilter for even my whacky taste.

Caterpillars in my path

The Symmetry tool made my fans look like caterpillars, so I had to add a path thru them, then used the rotate tool to change the symmetrical look of them

Dreaming of Daisies

Maria Wassick, Midland, Michigan. This is just a basic Drunkard's path block set into the Baby Blocks Layout. I just rotated blocks until this flower design appeared. I love the sky effect the mottled blue fabric gives it.

or Waiting for Spring I am still playing with the different layouts. They appear to change a simple block into something else. Albany, NY email

I love the layouts, I just have to quit spinning the blocks and changing the colors, then I might make one in fabric. Albany, NY

Circular Paths

I used the same block design in both quilts varying the color schemes and layouts. This version has a pieced border. Fabrics used were from the new EQ palette download for this month.

Sands

I found this block by doing a seach in the block library. I added these fabrics and just like the idea of placing the block on point.

Clip and Cool

Combination of the Daisy Petal Fan block, the Floating Fan block and an original variation of the Drunkard's Path using 2 quarter circles instead of one on opposite corners. The blocks were placed in the Special Effects - 4 Layout. This caused the DP curves to skew forming a shears appearance. Sue Wegert Lily Pond Quilt Designs Warsaw, IN

Windmill Flowers

I designed an off-center drunkard's path-type block in Easy Draw, and made use of one of the designs (Irregular Grids #16) in the Layout Libray for the center of the quilt. I had to mirror image my blocks after the first attempt of an off-center block plus the off-set layout resulted in perfect circles, which wasn't what I was looking for. Charlotte, NC
