Club EQ Album: February 2004 Challenge: Drunkard's Path! Page 2

Design a quilt with a block from the Drunkard's Path book (1 Classic Pieced) or from the Fans book (2 Contemporary Pieced) in the EQ5 Block Library. Or you may design your own block that has a square with a curved corner patch like the Drunkard's Path. The blocks in your quilt should have this Drunkard's Path block or variation as the primary (majority) block but you may introduce other complementary blocks.

Discovery

Starts with Special Effects 9 layout. I put an Around the World block in the very center, surrounded it in the main blocks with Drunkard's Path, and used Daisy Petal Fan in the corners. I created the 8-pointed star effect by making a wreath in wreathmaker using the basic drunkard's path quarter circle, and placed that as a motif on layer 2.

Bed Spins

The design/layout of this quilt was inspired by a lesson in Barb Vlack's "EQ5 Quilt Design". Eack block is a variation of the Drunkard's Path design; these kitties are 'drunk' on catnip and are having 'bed spins'....:)

Checks and Balance

Waukegan IL I love primary colors and the black and white checks seem to set off the colors very well. I don't know if this one will ever get made but it cheers me up to look at it.

This is my second EQ5 challenge and I decided to concentrate on using the Fussy Cut tool this month. It was interesting to see the changes in the block(s) simply by altering the focus in the fabric I selected. Thanks, Dena Martin email

At an exhibition in St-Marie-aux-Mines 2003 I bought the curve-master and some curved guides to cut and sew easely rounded lines and seams. the challenge of this month is one I actually made ! I just finished to handquilt that work. Nathalie Goossens from Belgium

Idaho, USA Years ago I saw a tiny photo of a quilt show in a magazine. In a booth there was a quilt hanging up with a block of this nature. I could see right away how it was done and drafted up my own, with fin variations. The layout is my own. I've made this quilt but used white as my background and a water print as the outer border. This virtual quilt shows what I would do if I ever make another. I used hand applique to piece the curved units. The quilt shop I used to work at helped me come up with the name.

using the baby blocks quilt background, use all the same polka dot background and recolor 3 patterns in a different yellow fabric. using patterns instead of solids makes it more interesting.

Drunk or sober

if you stare at this long enough you feel drunk. i used several drunkard path blocks, making it more busy toward the center and colored it all black and white.

Shaded Timbers

Somerville, TX For this quilt I started with the Falling Timbers block, using it for the borders as well as the center. I then kept the lattice work the same color and shaded the rest from light at the lower left to dark in the upper right.

Can You Walk A Straight Line?
Somerville, TX I used a simple drunkards path block, arranging them in a diamond. Then I used the tints for the red and blue, putting the darkest on the outside and the lightest in the center. The corners nearly disappear because of the shading, and the quilt also appears to be somewhat three dimensional.

I guess really I drew part of The Drunkard's Path. I am trying to draw my own blocks but it seems difficult to be completely original. I kept on thinking of New Years Eve while drawing this. A New Years Eve from a long time ago. Dorothy Atkinson Lafontaine, ON. Canada On Beautiful Georgian Bay

Posys In The Garden

I started off to make a fan block. I am trying to draw my own blocks , Having the courage to drawi my own blocks comes from Patti R. Anderson's book EQ5 Drawing Book. I will never be a quilt artist but I figure if I just keep on working at books like Patti's I might at least be able to make an acceptable quilt that I designed. I think too that the women who write into the Digest gives us all whether a Newbie or a more experienced quilt designer the courage to keep on trying. My husband told me today that my Valentines present will be Barb's book and the Book on Colour. I was amazed that he actually got to the site and ordered because he never uses the computer. He laughed and said that when he turned my computer on it just automatically went to the EQ Site. Dorothy Atkinson Lafontaine, ON. Canada On Beautiful Georgian Bay where it is cold and snowy.
