Electric Quilt Computer Lab
at Houston Quilt Festival

October 27 - November 2, 2003

EQ the MouseThe Electric Quilt Company will again sponsor a hands-on EQ computer lab at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas.

EQ book authors, Fran Gonzalez and Barb Vlack will offer beginning and intermediate EQ5 classes. Craig Hamer, from Hewlett-Packard, will return by request to team-teach his popular Printer Magic class.

Barbara Gilstad is coordinating the lab, and will be looking for classroom volunteers. See below for class schedule, faculty, and registration details. Registration begins in the summer. Classes fill quickly!


Class Schedule

Monday morning, October 27 - Beginning EQ5 - Barb Vlack

In this introduction to EQ5, you will learn to use the block library, set blocks into layouts for quilts, add borders, color blocks on the quilt, and create patterns.

Monday afternoon, October 27 - Designing Quilts in EQ5 (Intermediate) - Barb Vlack

After you've learned the basics for using EQ5, explore ways to create quilts of many kinds with various traditional and non-traditional layouts, border options, appliqué overlays, and quilting stencils.

Tuesday morning, October 28 - Designing Quilts in EQ5 (Intermediate) - Barb Vlack

After you've learned the basics for using EQ5, explore ways to create quilts of many kinds with various traditional and non-traditional layouts, border options, appliqué overlays, and quilting stencils.

Tuesday afternoon, October 28 - Beginning EQ5 - Barb Vlack

In this introduction to EQ5, you will learn to use the block library, set blocks into layouts for quilts, add borders, color blocks on the quilt, and create patterns.

Wednesday morning, October 29 - Designing Quilts with Custom Set – (Intermediate) - Barb Vlack

Experienced users of EQ5 can learn tricks for freeform quilt designing by setting blocks of different sizes in Custom Set, the least structured quilt layout format in EQ5.

Wednesday afternoon, October 29 - Printer Magic - (Beginner) - Craig Hamer from HP, and Barb Vlack

Prepare for the holidays, using EQ, an HP printer and your imagination. Learn fabric printing secrets great for labels and quilts. Explore paper printing options for cards and tags.

Experiment with EQ5's generous layout and border options. Create a series of designs that illustrate a wide variety of quilt styles. Explore the Block, Palette, and Layout Libraries. Generate printouts.

Friday afternoon, October 31 - EQ5 Drawing Dynamics - (Beginner or Intermediate) - Fran Gonzalez

Discover the power of EasyDraw, PatchDraw, and the Overlaid worktable as you create pieced and appliqué designs. Analyze blocks, exercise tools, color designs. Generate templates, foundation patterns, rotary cutting charts.

Registration

Registration is handled by Quilts, Inc. Class registration materials, including full travel and lodging information, is posted on their Web site in midsummer. Classes fill very quickly once they are posted, so we recommend that you check with Quilts, Inc. if you have questions about when registration will begin.
