Fran Iverson Gonzalez, Barb Vlack, and Mary Ellen Kranz will offer beginning and intermediate EQ5 classes. Mary Ellen, Katrina Hamer and Craig Hamer (Craig's from Hewlett-Packard) will teach a wide variety of classes about printing, scrapbooking in fabric, and working with photos in EQ and in Print Shop Pro. Barbara Gilstad is coordinating the lab. See the class schedule for Lab 1 and Lab 2 below. NOTE: Beginners should please not register for Intermediate classes. Registration begins in the summer. Class Schedule Lab #1 Monday morning, November 1 - Beginning EQ5 - (Beginner) - Barb Vlack In this introduction to EQ5, you will learn to use the block library, set blocks into layouts for quilts, add borders, color blocks on the quilt, and create patterns. Monday afternoon, November 1 - Designing Quilts in EQ5 (Intermediate) - Barb Vlack Not for beginners. Design traditional and non-traditional quilts as you go beyond the basics, learning to use EQ5's powerful Graph Pad and exploring border options, appliqué overlays and quilting stencils. Tuesday morning, November 2 - Beginning EQ5 - (Beginner) - Barb Vlack In this introduction to EQ5, you will learn to use the block library, set blocks into layouts for quilts, add borders, color blocks on the quilt, and create patterns. Tuesday afternoon, November 2 - Designing Quilts with Custom Set - (Intermediate) - Barb Vlack For experienced EQ5 users. Learn freeform quilt designing tricks, using the Graph Pad and setting blocks of different sizes in Custom Set, the least-structured quilt layout format in EQ5. Wednesday morning, November 3 - Borders in EQ5 and a Round Robin - (Intermediate) - Barb Vlack Not for beginners. Design your own borders and get design ideas while collaborating with class members, adding borders to each others' centers to design a multiple-border round robin quilt. Fun! Wednesday afternoon, November 3 - Printer Magic - (Every) - Craig Hamer from HP, and Barb Vlack Prepare for the holidays using EQ5, an HP printer, and your imagination. Learn fabric printing secrets great for labels and quilts. Explore paper printing options for cards and tags. Thursday all day, November 4 - Fabric Printing - (Every) - Mary Ellen Kranz and Craig Hamer In this all-day class you will learn step-by-step how to print photos and other images directly onto fabric. Use the latest techniques and printers to make colorfast fabric blocks from photographs. Digital cameras and scanners de-mystIfied! Friday morning, November 5 - EQ5 Drawing Dynamics- (Beginner) - Fran Gonzalez Discover the power of EasyDraw™, PatchDraw, and the Overlaid worktable as you create pieced and appliqué designs. Analyze blocks, exercise tools, color designs. Generate templates, foundation patterns, rotary cutting charts. Friday afternoon, November 5 - EQ5 Layout Logic - (Beginner or Intermediate) - Fran Gonzalez Experiment with EQ5's generous layout and border options. Create a series of designs that illustrate a wide variety of quilt styles. Explore the Block, Palette, and Layout Libraries. Generate printouts. Saturday morning, November 6 - EQ5 Beginner Basics - (Beginner or Intermediate) - Fran Gonzalez Create a quilt design in EQ5, start to finish. Draw and color blocks. Plan the layout and borders. Uses HP Creative Scrapbook Assistant software. Monday afternoon, November 1 - 3-D Scanning in EQ5 - (Every) - Katrina and Craig Hamer Scan and transform ordinary objects into fabric designs. Save your designs in EQ5's Fabric Library to use in quilt designing. Print a design on fabric to take home! Tuesday morning, November 2 - Telling Your Quilt's Story - (Every) - Katrina Hamer Learn all of the possibilities of HP's Custom Quilt Label Kit software. You will leave class with a minimum of 1 fabric printed label. Tuesday afternoon, November 2 - Printer Potpourri - (Every) - Katrina and Craig Hamer Match EQ's newest appliqué block pattern CDs with an ink jet printer and appliqué is no longer an "a" word! Wednesday morning, November 3 - EQ5 Print-a-Quilt - (Beginner) - Katrina and Craig Hamer EQ5 beginners design a simple quilt in EQ5, then learn fabric printing secrets to print blocks for a small quilt and label to sew into a "cheater" quilt at home.
