EQ the Mouse Responds to the ClubEQ Challenge
 |
Last month ClubEQ challenge leader, Barb Vlack, asked everyone to design a quilt for me. She said:
- Our favorite mouse and mascot, EQ, would love a quilt to call his own.
- He is small, gray and a bit vain about his looks.
- His favorite food is cheese.
- He lives in a box behind Penny's computer monitor on her desk, and could definitely use a warm quilt.
- He edits the monthly EQ Newsletter.
- He has a Facebook page and loves his fans.
- His best friend is Jean Claude, a small brown mouse who lives in the Art History department of Bowling Green State University.
- He speaks French, but very poorly. Jean Claude is fluent.
- Quilts should be 12 inches or less.

EQ the Mouse & Friends by Carol E. Skrube
This wonderful little quilt shows me in my box (my bed) behind Penny's computer, studying my French lessons. My friend Jean Claude, sporting a mustache and beret, watches the computer screen. Note the pictures of Dean, Andrea, Barb Vlack and Penny on the wall.

Comments about some of the other quilts

The French Connection by C.M.Verbiest
What a clever way to incorporate the French & American flags, celebrating my friendship with my French friend Jean Claude Mouse. What you can't see is that both books have titles: I'm reading “Fromage, Vin, Pan” (Cheese, Wine, Bread), while Jean Claude reads “Paris Nice Portier.” I'm not sure of the translation, but I sure like this quilt! |

Under the Desk by Carolyn Laukkonen
Carolyn depicts me looking startled, wondering: Is there time to eat a few of the cheese cubes she's thoughtfully left me before everyone returns to the office? |
 |
Je ne sais pas by Jo Moury
Jo captures me trying to memorize French phrases in my on-going struggle to learn French. Note the Wild Goose Chase border (symbolizing my unattainable linguistic goal?) in brown and orange (Bowling Green State University colors). Note also the EQ logo behind me. |
 |
Peek a Boo Cheese by Judith Best
What a delicious design in my favorite colors: cheddar and swiss. Would I like fries with that?

Untitled by Nancy A.
“It could be cheese” is my idea of optimism. It is usually quilts in the office, but…there is always the hope that….it could be cheese… |

I Love EQ Quilt by Serena Toppins
Note how cleverly Serena is trying to pull my strings with this quilt. First, the title, and the little pieced heart. I heart EQ! Next, the cute caricature of me, nose to cheese wedge. And am I seeing things or can you also discern an E and Q in my tail? And the topper by Toppins? Using fabric designed by Penny's daughter Erin McMorris. Serena, you are good! |
 |
Untitled by Simonetta Marini
Simonetta's is a film noir nightmare scenario: It is a dark night. I am alone in the office. (Cue music from Jaws movie or Psycho.) But….wait….do I smell CAT?! I love this quilt, and the idea Simonetta has giving me. I will write “EQ the Mouse” on all our computer mice. |

My thanks to ALL the talented and inventive designers who created a quilt design especially for me. It took me forever to choose a favorite, because I DO love them all.
