Thank you for signing up for a round robin. Please read this information carefully.
Sometimes, there is one member who has computer problems or emails keep bouncing to them despite everyone's best intentions.
Please email each other and introduce yourselves. Wait to start until you hear from everyone. After at most 2 weeks of waiting: if you do not hear from one of the members, please continue on as a group of 3 people without them. If you do not hear from two or more members, please sign up for the next group and abandon this group number.
1. Who is going to be Captain
The captain does not have a difficult job, nor does she need to have been in a robin before.
The captain needs to initiate conversation and remind members of the pass dates. The captain
may also need to remind members to send their final project files to (webmaster@electricquilt.com)
at the end of all the passes.
Examples:
Email 1 - Introductions:
Hello Cindy, Diane, and Evelyn!
My name is Andrea and I'm just writing to say "hi" and to introduce myself. I live in Bowling Green, Ohio...
have been quilting for...
I love to play the piano...
I will be out of town on the 27th, so if we could have 2 weeks to make the center instead of 1, that would be wonderful.
-Andrea
Email 2 - Pass Reminder:
Hello Cindy, Andrea, and Evelyn!
I am just reminding you that your centers need to be passed by Thursday.
Cindy -> Evelyn
Evelyn -> Diane
Diane -> Andrea
Andrea -> Cindy
I can't wait to see what you come up with!
-Diane
2. When your pass dates are going to be
You can decide when to pass each project on to the next person. Usually 1-2 weeks for the center and 1 week for each border after that works quite well. Be sure to accommodate each other's schedules. Some members may only have computer time on weekends, while others may do it from work Monday-Friday. Events, meetings, and trips also need to be planned around as well.
3. If this is going to be a regular robin or a special one
A regular robin would be where everyone creates a center, passes the quilt to the next person, and then adds a border to the quilt they receive.
A special robin would
be where you have some sort of theme. For instance, "we all have
to work within this layout for our borders:"
You could even have a fabric robin before you have a quilting robin. The captain picks 2 fabrics, adds them to the sketchbook and deletes all other fabrics. She passes it to the next person who adds 2 more fabrics, and so on. You could pass it once around so that you have 8 fabrics, or twice around and have 16. Then you would have 2 weeks to build a center based on the palette you chose as a group, and the regular round robin would start.
It's up to everyone in your group how daring they wish to be.
NAME: Center by Your Name
REFERENCE: Group 46
NOTES: I started with such and such a block and it just begged to be colored with calicos. etc. etc.
1. If one of you decides NOT to participate after I've formed the group, you will need to tell the others and me (webmaster@electricquilt.com) right away, so I can try to find a new person to take your place.
2. When naming your files, if your name were Pat and your group were 46, your file would be "46pat".
3. Send the final project file to each member of the group and back to me (webmaster@electricquilt.com).
4. PUT STUFF ON YOUR NOTECARDS. Please include your first and last name and tell me who did which border. The title of the quilt, names of the participants, and any extra information from the person who did the center will be posted underneath the photo on our website.
5. If your group decides to stay together for more than one Round Robin exchange, that's wonderful. Then, just have the chairman write me. Your group number would stay the same, but name your files 46(2)Pat instead of 46Pat.
6. Please take the time to introduce yourselves to everyone in the group. It's nice to know who your playmates are, and you MIGHT become lasting cyberquilting-friends.
