Removing RLE

RLE stands for "Run length encoding". We suggest using MS Paint to save your fabric scans, because it does not use RLE and it comes with Windows. If you prefer to use Paintshop Pro or Photoshop, you can remove RLE by following the instructions on this page.

Remember: All settings on the Frequently Asked Questions About Scanning Fabrics page still apply.

If you use Adobe Photoshop

1. After you open your fabric scan in Photoshop and are ready to save it, select Save As...
2. Select "BMP (*.BMP; *.RLE)" as the file type.
3. Click the Save button.
4. Make sure that Compress (RLE) does NOT have a check by it.
5. Click OK.

If you use JASC Paint Shop Pro

1. After you open your fabric scan in Paint Shop Pro and are ready to save it, select Save As...
2. Select Windows or OS/2 Bitmap (*.bmp) as the file type.
3. Click the Options button.
4. Under Encoding, select RGB. Make sure that "Run length encoding" is NOT selected.
5. Click OK.
6. Click Save.
