Electric Quilt 4 Frequently Asked Questions

Why are line segments missing when I go to color my block?
The rule of EasyDraw is that all segments must touch one another. If you are missing lines or arcs, it. s because the segments were not touching. You. ll need to redraw the block making sure that all segments touch or cross one another.

Tip: Zoom in on the drawing to examine it closely.

Why doesn't the spacebar make my arc flip?
Make sure that you are dragging the mouse at the same time you press the spacebar. You must be in motion when you press the spacebar for the arc to flip.

Why does my rectangular block drawing look square in the Sketchbook?
The Sketchbook will always display blocks as squares. When you place the block in the border, it will display as you intended.

How can I make the nodes more visible after adding noces using the Edit pop-up?
Click on Refresh to redraw the worktable making your new nodes easier to see.

Why doesn't my grid begin and end where I want it to?
The grid will always snap to grid points when you release the mouse. You will find that this is a very useful feature of the grid tool. If this snapping with the grid tool lines prevents you from drawing what you want, you should draw each line individually with the line tool.

I have a complicated drawing. Why can't I select the segment I want?
Use Ctrl+click to select segments that are close together and difficult to select. If there is more than one segment at the mouse position, the first Ctrl+click will select the first one drawn. Then, using Ctrl+click repeatedly will select succeeding ones.

The Edit pop-up commands are disabled when I want to use them. Why?
You must have a segment selected with the Edit tool to get the commands to be enabled.

Can I flip a block drawing to get its mirror image?
Yes. When you have your block on the EasyDraw screen, do this:

  1. On the EDIT menu, choose Select All. This selects all lines in the block.
  2. Right-click anywhere. A menu pops up.
  3. Click on Symmetry. The Symmetry pop up menu appears.
  4. Click on Flip H (for horizontally). Your block drawing flips.
  5. Click on Save in Sketchbook to keep your block.

If you have any trouble saving your block to the Sketchbook, or find your flipped drawing is missing lines when you go to color it, it may be that during the "flip" when the lines were unhooked from their snap to dots, they didn't get properly hooked again. Zoom in, making sure that each line end is exactly on a snap to point. If you can't find the problem with your drawing, you can convert the drawing to guides, and redraw.

Why can't I set the grid properties box higher than 10?
The highest grid you can set in the grid properties box is 10. The EQ4 Design Cookbook and the Help file both say the values can range from 2 to 12, but this is not correct. The limit is 10.

How do I get rid of graph paper lines on my block?
Choose Blank paper (instead of Graph paper) on the Drawing Board Setup menu:

  1. On the BLOCK menu, choose Drawing Board Setup.
  2. Click on the Graph Paper tab.
  3. Click the Style arrow to drop down the 2 choices: Blank or Graph paper lines.
  4. Click on Blank.
  5. Click OK.

How can I change the ruler size?
No matter what the rulers say, your block can be any size. All you need to do is draw it. Even if the rulers say 6 inches, you can print the block 5" or 7.5" or any size you want. The rulers are just there in case you need to measure something.

But, if you really want to change the rulers:

  1. Choose Drawing Board Setup from the BLOCK menu.
  2. On the General tab, change the block size to whatever size you would like.
  3. Click OK.
