What will happen to my projects when I install the upgrade?
You do not need to worry about your current projects. They will remain just as you left them. The installation of the upgrade will overwrite some of the existing EQ4 files that make the program run. It will also install a new icon to your Electric Quilt group call "EQ4 Setup."
Do I need to use the "EQ4 Setup" icon after I complete
the installation?
No. It is not necessary to run the EQ4 Setup after installation.
When do I need to run the "EQ4 Setup" program?
There are two purposes for running the EQ4 Setup program. First, if you want to reset EQ4 to the original settings, then run the EQ4 Setup. It is fast and easy to do, and it will restore all the EQ4 settings. If you have any trouble at all with EQ4, this should be your first step in troubleshooting the problem. Secondly, the setup program will link other Electric Quilt Company software to EQ4. For example, if you just purchased and installed either of the Sew Precise programs, then running the setup program will automatcially link the blocks in Sew Precise to EQ4. (The orignial installation of EQ4 required that you run the installation again remembering the installation folders of all the different applications. This is not necessary now. The EQ4 Setup program searches your computer and sets the links for you automatically.)
I have the new EQ4.1 upgrade and it installed fine, but I'm
getting "illegal operation" message
when I click the Desktop icon. What should I do?
The first troubleshooting step is to run the EQ4 Setup program. Installation of EQ version 4.1 added an "EQ4 Setup" icon to your Electric Quilt group.
- Click Start - Programs - Electric Quilt - EQ4 Setup.
Make sure that "Restore default program settings to EQ4" is checked. If you see a dialog displaying Name, Company, and Serial Number, make sure you have completed all three entries. This will enable the "Next" button. When the setup is complete, try running EQ4 again.
If you continue to have problems, reinstall the EQ4.1 free upgrade. You will have the EQUPDATE.EXE file in your EQ4 folder if you downloaded it from the Internet. Otherwise you will have the upgrade on CD.
If you still have problems, uninstall EQ4. Reinstall EQ4 using your original CD and then install the EQ4.1 upgrade.
I downloaded the file but now I can't find it on my computer. Where is it?
After you have downloaded the file, you need to run the installation from this file. First you need to find the file on your computer, and you can find it by doing the following:
- Click on Start - Find (or Search).
- Click on Files or Folders.
- In the Named typing box type: equpdate.exe
- Click on the Find Now button.
This process will search your computer for the file. The file will appear in the bottom of the window. (If it does not find the file, check your spelling and try again. If it still does not find the file, then you will need to download the file again. It is possible that your Internet connection was interrupted during the download process.)
- When you find the file on the bottom of the window, double-click on it. This will startup the installation. Follow the instructions on-screen.
- When the installation is done, try running EQ4 again.
What new Help file information is in EQ4.1?
The Colors and Fabrics Help files, and the Printing and Exporting Help files were greatly expanded. To see these files click on HELP on the main menu bar, choose EQ4 Help, then choose Colors and Fabrics or choose Printing and Exporting. You will find new information on Working with Color, and Changing the Display of the Color Palette. This information includes:
- About EQ4 Colors
- Adding shades and tints
- Adding tones
- Adding grades
- Exporting and saving files in other formats
- Exporting a block as a WMF file
How do I tell if I have EQ4.0 or EQ4.1?
If you can't open EQ4 to check version number, then, at the Windows desktop choose Start - Programs - Electric Quilt - EQ4 Setup. If you do not see EQ4 Setup, then you have EQ version 4.0
To check version number if you're in EQ4, click the HELP menu and choose About EQ4. The
version number (4.0 or 4.1) shows there. Version 4.0 owners should visit the EQ Web site
and download the free EQ4.1 upgrade.
