Great Quilting Software That Comes in a Book

You may have heard of Robyn Pandolph in connection with her designs of vintage-look fabric for Moda [and South Seas].
But she also designs primitive folk art patterns for her own business, Cabin Fever Designs. In her book "Stitched With Love," Robyn includes her designs for appliqué quilts and wall hangings, two of which have matching pillows.
Robyn uses the appliqué patterns to personalize ready-made clothing items. And she also shares designs, patterns and techniques for curtains, a floorcloth, salt clay icicles, slip covers, and table cloths. She even includes a recipe for sugar cookies.
"Stitched With Love" includes clear how-to instructions and recipes. Not only do you see photos of quilts, you see these cute quilts in rooms showing the other projects included in this book. The beautiful double-page photos by Mark Packo make you think you are looking at a decorating magazine instead of a quilting book.
Like any other quilting book, Robyn includes the fabric requirements and instructions for each quilt and project. But the one thing you won't find in the book are the appliqué patterns. Instead, you'll find a feature-packed CD-ROM by Electric Quilt Company that contains not only the patterns but a computer software package.
This software from Electric Quilt gives you the ability to choose the size of the quilt, change its borders, rearrange the blocks, print the pattern pieces in different sizes, and pick from four different fabric palettes.

Robyn's easy appliqué patterns look real nice in her vintage fabrics, but I would like to make the quilts in bright colors for baby shower gifts. Electric Quilt anticipated this by including a nursery brights palette along with a country colors palette and a contemporary fabrics palette.
There's also a teaching video on the CD-ROM, in which Robyn shows her method of needle-turn appliqué step by step. The best part of this video is that each step is a separate mini-video, making it easy to repeatedly watch just the pieces on which you need clarification.
In a few places in the video, the camera angle is too low to give a really good view of the step being described. But all the instructions are included in the text so you can easily check your understanding of the step.
If you haven't used a computer for printing your quilting patterns, this is a great package with which to start because it's easy to use and is very flexible. On the other hand, if you already have Electric Quilt, you can add the project files from "Stitched With Love" to the Electric Quilt project files, thereby increasing the patterns available to you for all projects.
"Stitched With Love" beats by a mile those other CD-ROM packages that only allow you to print a pattern "as-is". The book itself has the classy look of a hardcover, but not the hardcover price. It includes software that is versatile, but easy to use. It has video training backed up by text. In short, it's everything you need in one all-inclusive package.
In "Stitched With Love," Electric Quilt Company has produced another great software package that easily integrates into their flagship Electric Quilt product. This is true quilting entertainment.
