"EQ from A to Z" by Charlotte R. Kleiner

"I sat down with the index to the EQ5 Design Cookbook and went through the alphabet, writing down features for each letter I thought I would like to highlight. Then I had the challenge of putting in something to represent a feature from each letter of the alphabet. I placed the EQ Logo block in the centre, then added borders — one border per side, going clockwise around this central square. Each border unit represents a different feature."
-Charlotte R. Kleiner

A
Appliqué - is for an appliqué floral block
B
Blocks - I inserted three different block types (pieced, paper-pieced and appliquéd) into a Diamonds border
C
Charm Quilts
D
Design - I designed a new block by superimposing two blocks. The three blocks are placed in a Spaced Squares border
E
This had to be ELECTRIC QUILT
F
Fabric Stash - there are lots of fabrics to choose from in the EQ Fabric Library and in the nine versions of Stash
G
Graph Pad - I took a flower motif and resized it twice. Then I drew a motif to resemble the Adjust tool icon and placed it around each flower. This tool uses the Graph Pad a lot

H
Help … Lots! - need I say more?
I
Import & Export - very important features in EQ
J
Just Fun!
K
Kaleidoscopes - I used four Points in and Points out borders for this section
L
Libraries - that’s for blocks, fabrics, palettes, embroidery and layouts
M
Memory Quilts - for the many EQ blocks that can be used to make memory quilts. Photos can be imported too
N
Notecards - a good place to document your quilt or block designs
O
Overlaid - The overlaid alphabet blocks fit nicely into this spot. It’s a great block style
P
Palettes - there are lots to choose from and you can make your own. I used the Big & Little Points Out for this border, placing a letter in each big point

Q
Quilt Layout Choices - if you can’t think of one yourself, or want to design something quickly with lots of choices and sizes, the Layout Library is the place to go in EQ for quilt layouts
R
Rotary Cutting - some blocks give you rotary cutting directions. This is a great time- saver
S
Symmetry Tool - this tool, used with asymmetrical blocks, produces a variety of designs. I used the Blocks border twice, placing eight blocks in each border, then rotated the same block to represent the Symmetry tool

T
Thread Color Tool - I coloured quilting stencil blocks different colours using the Thread Color tool
U
Undo - a handy tool to have
V
Vertical Strip Quilt Layouts - I alternated two Blocks borders with two Drop Blocks borders and used Rail Fence III and Diagonal Strips blocks in the border block spaces
W
Wreathmaker - The candles represent EQ’s anniversary. I made a wreath for each year (well - from 3 on anyway)!
X
Tenth Anniversary - the reason for this quilt
Y
Yardage Estimates - the emphasis is on estimate - some people like this feature and some don’t, but once you learn how to use it, it is a good tool
Z
Zoom Tool - a great feature to have especially when designing. I used five Points out borders, colouring them in staggering colours to create a zig zag

I finished off the quilt with a Points Out border at the bottom and a scalloped "floating" border on the left and top sides.
