Il Calmo Mare Della Sera The quilt name comes from one of my favorite Andrea Bocelli songs. Translation is "the calm evening sea" but it sounds so much more relaxing in Italian! While living in California I spent so much time at Sea World San Diego that the animals knew me! This quilt center is based on those happy memories. For layout inspiration I went 'shopping' in BlockBase 1 (4 patch). I was trying to decide just what to do, when it hit me, I think this storm needs to be calmed down. I really like the way it turned out. Lori Center: Lynda-Jeanne |
Hawaiian Holiday The other day I hired out a movie called Lilo and Stitch for children. The DVD had a special feature about Hawaiian islands, and the beaury of the nature fascinated me. The thought of a Hawaiian holiday makes me happy. I wish I could have one ! Could you use only colors and no fabrics for this please. I think that would enhence Hawaiian quiltish mood, and also it will keep the project light. Thank you so much ! - Akiko Center: Akiko Obata |
These are some of the things that make me happy: My freedom, the fact that I have
it. My house, and all the loving people in it My passions, of which sewing is first
My life as an American. Trains are a special favorite of mine. I live in Utah where the Golden Spike was
driven connecting the Transcontinental Railway. I built a "connecting corner" as
the corner blocks to make fun little squares to round it off a little. Center: Lori |

I set the initial block on Layer 1 and then another in the blank centre on Layer
2, and then another, and then another .... and decided that was enough! Center: Tutu |
I was taking a course with Michele Scott via Quilt University on Curved Piecing. This is one of the ones I want to try. I like the softer colors and mixing applique with piecing Center: Debbie |

The theme All that Jazz occurred to me while completing the lesson on tilted blocks in Patti Anderson's EQ Drawing Book because tilting plain blocks really jazzes them up. When our group selected All that Jazz as the theme for this Round Robin, I immediately thought of the musical "Chicago" and that inspired this quilt center. The blocks are Chicago Star and Chicago Pavement from BlockBase 1. The musical fabric is part of my real stash. In order to keep the "Chicago" feeling, stay with the black/white motif, using the solid red as an accent (like lipstick). But, feel free to use any black and/or white prints, texture, or tone-on-tones you fancy. Center: Lynda-Jeanne |
I decided to back away from the basketball theme, but opted to go ahead with the purple, and sticking with the musical theme in honor of my daughter, Britni who is a stellar trumpet player. The fabrics I used were: Bali Handpaints Designed by Hoffman, 1895 Hyacinth, (light) and Polos Designed by Princess Mirah Designs (dark) The instruments I borrowed from the Spring and Summer designs in the embroidery library, and the angel was from the Christmas designs. Center: Kris |
At first I couldn't think of anything for our theme. But then I had a thought, just use a center that I liked, and then see if everyone could "Jazz" it up for me. This is an actual one of my UFO"s, (unfinished object), and although my actual quilt is 24 x 24, I could always add some blocks to make the layout 4 x 3, instead of 3 x 3. The fabrics in my actual quilt are similar, not exactly the same except for the black. Therefore, I would like to keep that color as the focus color. - Lori Center: Lori |
This was a challenging theme to work with. But what comes to mind first is Black and White, Diners, and the geometrc Art Deco designs of the 30's & 40's. The purple in this quilt is just for giggles. diana... Center: Diana |

Primary Plaids Plus! This Round Robin quilt uses only one plaid in three colorways plus one solid color. It is one of the few RR quilts that has no applique or "for looking only" blocks. It could be sewn in real fabric with little stress. The third border person thinks this is a mighty fine quilt, for either an RR or for real sewing. Center: Carol Zalon, CA |

Summer Porch I designed the center in five or six separate parts -- stems, buds, flower, etc. -- and floated them together on Layer 2. This allowed me to use the Thread Color tool to keep black outlines from overwhelming all other colors. It's hard to pick a favorite of your own RR centers but this one might be it. I am as pleased as I can be with what my nest mates did with it! Center: Daphne Stewart |
A baby girl is born I just added a small border at the end. Isn't it cute :) It will perhaps be a little
bit difficult to sew it, But I think I want to copy it on to fabric as a picture. Center Vigdis Stensrud Lund; Norway |

Snowdrops and Muscari Snowdrops are among the first flowers that come out at the end of winter where I live to give a promise of spring. The background fabrics symbolize the fight between snow and ice (the light greyish blue) and juicy green grass - encouraged by rays of sunlight in the triangle circle all around. I love the way the RR fellow ladies designed their matching borders. Thank you all! - Brigitte Center: Brigitte Otto |
The Lotus Flower I used a picture of a mosaic from the 'Library of Congress in Washington,DC' for inspiration to draw the center. Center by M.Mercedes Silva-merideth, IA, USA |
Bear and flowers Inspired by a bear in a movie I made this center for my quilt. He sits here with his little bear on his knee and think about how the surroundings now will be, when he goes round in the world. - Ingrid Center: Ingrid Jensen, Denmark |

Eve and Friends in Wales Put five friends in a (more or less) celtic mood together and the result is this quilt -- and a whole lot of fun. I LIKE what happened to my center! I drew a celtic knot (named Eve because she turned out to be the first of many I drew); Diana and Vigdis designed borders that meld together seamlessly; Andrea introduces two new blocks; and Carol pulls everything together perfectly. Terrific work, gals -- as usual! Thank you! Center: Daphne Stewart, Washington |
Absolutely a Sea Turtle This center has really to be a beautiful "quilt". Yes I just love it. Made just a litle border outside it to gove it more "air". Here are the names of the working ladies: Waterlillies? Border 1: Andrea Poulimenos, Tjaa Border 2: Carolyn Zalon, CA Movie Theater stuff Border
3: Daphne Steward, WA Border 4: Diana Webster, UT Just had to make an ending... but then in same color as border 4. Center: Vigdis |
Kermit and Ms. Piggy live happily ever after Knowing we would have 4 borders added, my goal was to select small center that could be elaborated upon quite a bit. Center: Carol Zalon |
Garden Pathways I love the complexity that can be achieved with just these simple blocks. I am all about simple these days. I need projects that I'll actually finish. LOL. I've included some fabrics I like that haven't been used in the quilt yet. Anything goes for the quilt. I can't wait to see what you all come up with. Thank you for inviting me to become part of your next round. It is fun being in a group with 5 people. Center: Andrea Poulimenos |

Which way did he go... I am working on a quilt using blocks similar to this one. It took me two days to draw out my quilt and 5 minutes to redraw this block. Wow! did I learn a lot in "custom settings." I decided to use the January's "Fabric of the Month" from EQ to try out new colors. Wow! what fun. So different for me. Center: Diana |
