Club EQ Album: September 1999 Challenge: Storm at Sea!

"Let's take one block and see what we can do with it. The Storm at Sea block is the first block in the EQ Libraries under 1 Classic Pieced, Old Favorites. Take the block, color it, skew it, distort it, redraw it."

09lisa2.gif Lisa from Germany I created these two quilts simply by rotating the original block and than played around with the colours ! Werdel-R-E@t-online.de Ask for September clubEQ challenge project file. website
09jenni1.gif Jennifer "Brian's Storm" Storm at Sea is my husband's favorite block and purple his favorite color, so I designed this for him. Maybe sometime next Millennium I'll make it for him. ;) brian_jen@prodigy.net Ask for September clubEQ challenge project file. website Free quilt patterns & recipes

09jenni3.gif Jennifer "Trinity" I began experimenting with quilting motifs on this one. I used the variable block setting, and discovered that the results looked like three birds in flight. It reminded me of the Trinity (Father, Son, Spirit) as being the center of life and in each corner of the world. brian_jen@prodigy.net Ask for September clubEQ challenge project file. website Free quilt patterns & recipes

09patsy Pat AZ "Escaping the Storm At Sea" I used the Storm At Sea and just used the every other rotation until I came up with this quilt. It reminded me of Penquins leaving the water so I named it Escaping the Storm At Sea. This is my second attempt at making a quilt other than the lessons in the EQ4. I used different shades of blue for the water and then decided to use something totally different for the borders. p.nickels@worldnet.att.net Ask for September clubEQ challenge project file.

09lld Linda in VA "Sailboats Safe From Stormy Seas" Original Storm At Sea Quilt. How ironic that the Storm At Sea Block has been our EQ4 challenge for September 1999, a month that will long be remembered for Hurricane Floyd, the most destructive storm to ever strike the Eastern Seacoast. My quilt has six storm circles to commemorate the six days that Floyd poured flooding rains onto the Bahamas, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New York before it finally played itself out in New England. linda.deperro@worldnet.att.net Ask for September clubEQ challenge project file.

09casey.gif Casey, Baltimore This is my first quilt design using EQ. I took the Storm at Sea block and changed the diamond panels to X's, then tiled two slightly different colorings to get the net-like effect and the central diamonds, which remind me of a compass spinning out of control! Since I took out the characteristic diamonds, I put them back in the borders. cdavis@essex.cc.md.us Ask for September clubEQ challenge project file.

09pam4 My teenaged daughter Kristen and I had lots of fun with this month's challenge. When she first looked at the block set on point, the first thing she saw was a lighthouse. I was very pleased that she pursued her idea, despite lack of time due to the start of school. Kristen NJ shoestring.cat@worldnet.att.net Ask for September clubEQ challenge project file.
