Start a new PatchDraw Block in EQ6. Set the Grid style to be "Circle" and the Spokes to be a multiple of 6. Draw a hexagon using the PolyLine and PolyArc tools and do not fill in the background to make it into a square. Use this EQ6 layout to CTRL+click your design into the quilt.

The blocks were drawn in PatchDraw>Pieced and Applique layers and saved as motif blocks. The color scheme was determined with the Random Recolor tool. St. Charles, Illinois, USA |
Once a layout is established for setting hexagon blocks, it's fun to try many variations. Blocks are drawn as motifs and set on Layer 2. "Bim" was my name for my grandmother.

After reading how easy this is to do once you get started, I'm almost embarassed to submit my one lone pathetic quilt. This is somewhat like the quilt I ended up with when someone had me put together the blocks her mother had hand-pieced many ears ago. Minnesota |

The layout is a traditional Grandmother's Flower Garden. Two different types of hexagon star blocks. For the outer row, I used the PolyArc tool for the rounded edges. Quito, Ecuador |

This was a fun challenge, I hadn't tried the hexagon blocks before. For this layout I combined appliqued blocks with plain floral-motif quilted ones. And put ribbons in the border. The fabrics are mostly from Paris Please, they were the Fabrics-of-the-Month some time ago. |

The three fans design is from Dover Designs Sampler. Winnipeg, MB Canada

The blocks in this piece were inspired by a geometric pattern from the Dover Design Sampler selections. Five different hexagon blocks make up the main part of the quilt--on their own each would probably not make a very exciting piece, however when they are combined they make a very striking pattern. Having never done english paper piecing I decided to keep it simple. I hope to make this small hanging someday in fabrics that simulate this same feeling. Missouri

My grandmother grew all sorts of things and my very favorite was zinnias next to her farmhouse. As a child I loved their bright colors and complex petal design. They are still a favorite flower today. Missouri |

I should have started on this project earlier in the month, it was very interesting. I did set the blocks in the 2nd layer myself without Barb's layout. Sheboygan, Wisconsin |
I used one of my favorite features of EQ, the 'Add shades and tints' to make this block a little more interesting. Some day I may be forced to dye my own fabric so that I can get gradations of colors like these. Sunnyside, Washington

The good thing about this challenge is that it gets us familiar with how PatchDraw works, with a mini-tutorial to get us started. The bad thing about pieced hexagons in a hexagon layout is that it is possibly the least interesting challenge I have ever done -- too limiting! That changed when I decided to have fun with the layout ... Sunnyside, Washington |

I had a lot of trouble with this challenge but finally figured out the patch draw and now I really like it. Still need lots of practice though. I left my unused blocks in my sketchbook because they could be useful later on. Bracebridge, Ontario Canada

This quilt began with all the blocks the same but I changed some to solid colour because I needed to figure out how to do that. Bracebridge, Ontario Canada |
The woven block was a pleasant surprise. I was just repeating an earlier segmentation of the block and with the layering created by EQ6 it formed a magical layered effect on the pieces. Perth, Western Australia. |
Not your typical Grandmother's flower garden. I'm not sure if I am brave enough to piece this one. Perth, Western Australia. |

Very interesting challenge because I never tried before to draw a hexagon. the most difficult part for once was to find a name! Cheers from Switzerland |

I was looking for something, anything, that would work in the hexagon! |
