January 2009 Challenge: A Firm Foundation! (Page 2)
Design a quilt or two that can be pieced with a foundation. The foundation piecing should be the major construction technique, though you may add design elements that require a different construction method, such as appliqué. Try designing your own foundation pattern with EasyDraw! Or alter a foundation pattern from the EQ6 block library. You may make some great discoveries for new blocks.

This is a block from the AnglePlay CD, set in a simple 4 x 4 quilt with sashing. Guildford, England |
This design combines paper piecing and applique. The striped blocks are designed for using up scraps and were easy to draw. The grapevine comes from the EQ library. Guildford, England |
Original design. Can be paper-pieced. Pattern was continued into the border. I prefer to finish many quilts by continuing the pattern into the border so as not to end with half blocks. Florida |
Original design. Can be paper-pieced. I enjoy extending the pattern into the border of the quilt to finish the design. Design can also end just after the square in the border to allow for applique if one wants. Florida

Brightly coloured beach huts are an essential part of the British coast. They go together with ice creams, sandcastles and the unreliable British weather to form part of our experience of summer by the seaside England |
I traced a clip art image for this challenge. England |
The braid block was drawn from Patti R. Anderson's website www.patchpieces.com. All blocks can be foundation pieced. Northeastern Ontario |
Played with auto border for the first time. All blocks can be foundation pieced, although I might use a Seminole piecing technique for the border. Centre of Pineapple block could be fussy cut. Northeastern Ontario |

I drew a block that could be foundation pieced and then set it into a quilt and used the symmetry tool until I found a design I liked. Ontario, Canada |
This block is a variation on the pineapple block which I set into a star layout and added applique blocks. Ontario, Canada |
I wanted to use bright colours and flowers in this quilt. I've used a quilt design from the library, blocks from EQ library changed into the colours, I like. The fabrics are from the default library. Easy and yet exciting to make. Denmark |

I've used the new fabric palette for January and the new kaleidoskope blocks. Thought it would be fun to play with one block and few colours. Denmark

Here she is Miss America!! Lots of "contestants" from New York here. I'm soooo afraid of curves. . . .maybe one day I'll enter the beauty contest. Sparks, Nevada U.S.A. |
I extended just 8 lines in each star so there would be no inset seam. I love feathered stars, but those inset seams didn't like me. Sparks, Nevada U.S.A. |

I added the striped triangle to the Big Basket from the Foundation Blocks in the library. I used a striped Auto Border from the EQ library. Orange is my favorite color, so I probably witll make a smaller version of this.

I used the symmetry key with New York Nighttime Block to make sombreros. Cancun means warm weather and beautiful people to my husband and me, so I hope I'll make this quilt someday.

The block used in this quilt is from the EQ6 foundation pieced block library, and the butterflies are from the applique motifs. Adelaide, South Australia |

Sometimes I draw patterns by request. Even though we don't have Bold Eagles in Germany I made this pattern for an US American friend . I thought you might like it too! This project is my own design except the border blocks from the EQ library. Find more free birds as EQ projekts on my website Germany |
I wonted to learn curved geese from Patti book and i thought this was a good one to enter the challenge. So did so This is the 1st time i have entered challenge and i am a real lover of foundation work but a real novice at it. New Zealand |
I like to spend vacation in the Netherlands and have been inspired to do the little quilt in spring 1999. My new Homepage and shop For any further Questions, please contact me. Germany |
I used this whacky star block in several sizes in a folk art type quilt that included applique folk art angels in a couple of sizes - a custom set quilt. It's easy to move the lines around in these stars to make them look different. There are few seams to match since not all of the star points go to the edge of the block, but it does need to be done in three sections. However, the alternate twisting star block can be pieced in only two sections. Eugene, Oregon |
