October 2008 Challenge: Magic Wand! (Page 3)

Design a quilt and color it with many colors. Then engage the Magic Wand tool (an add-on tool on the Design toolbar on the right side of the quilt worktable) and click on the quilt until you find another coloring that appeals to you. Add that to the Sketchbook and send in your file of TWO quilts: one "before" and one "after" the Magic Wand treatment.

Autumn Covered in Snow

I love the colors of Autumn. I love the crisp air and the falling leaves. The crackle of foot steps while walking in the park covered in dried leaves.

Blocks are from the EQ6 libraries. Applique leaf I made by tracing a leaf I found in the park. Stencil leaf came from
Quiltmaker 3.

The cold silent snow comes to cover the colors and sounds of Autumn. But Autumn will peek though the flakes as a reminder of how it all began.

The Mathematicians' Ceilidh

I actually used the EQ coloring for this design. When I manipulated the the blocks the colors formed four soft pillows that reminded me of a tropical star filed night.

I used the randomize feature to change the attitude of the original quilt. This coloring actually merged the four green areas in the original quilt with the background. The colors reminded me of a late season pumpkin field during a full moon.

The block is called Golden Glow. I set it on point to lose some of its "blockiness." This coloring gives it a lot of motion, and from a distance looks like a tic tac toe board.

The same Golden Glow block. Now it looks like giant green balls floating above the surface of the quilt. Or maybe an aerial view of an extremely well-organized ceilidh dance...

I never knew about this tool
and now I keep playing with
it just to see what happens.
I'll be making this quilt in the new year, but not in these colours.

After making many magic
wand swipes I decided this
was the one I liked best.
The other one was a green
background.
