March 2008 Challenge: Stars and Not-Stars! (Page 2)
Design a quilt for setting star blocks with blocks that are not stars. This can be a two-blocker quilt or a multi-blocker quilt. The rule is you must use some of each --- stars and not-stars.

This came from the layout library in

This just about meets the criteria of the challenge, with its single, large lone star block and an applique moon. A spattering of applique stars adds the final touch. Guildford, England |
This uses a simple star block, and a carrie nation chain block and then four diamond in a square blocks around an applique block to create the central star. Guildford, England |
I decided to play with a "new" add on I got called angle play so the pallette and some of the blocks and the layout are from that. I know it alot of colors but hey the more the merrier....Even threw in Lime Green after all what's a quilt with out lime green |
Winter Carnival celebrates with Fireworks over snow.
Combining Fireworks Star and Snowball block create some geometric eye-candy
that adds to the feeling of celebration. Try viewing this with the 'outline
blocks' and 'outline patches' unchecked to see the secondary stars and
rings better. |

This was a cool idea Barb. |
Blocks - EQ Stars and Beams and Four-four X. |
Blocks - Tangled Stars and Tangle stars alternative block. I was playing with the black and grey colouring and just one colour. I drew the alternative block after converting the block to guides and tracing some of the lines to give a more open block in the same grid. |

I was trying to get a woven look behind the stars by using a directional fabric. The one I chose is fairly subtle though. Perhaps a stronger directional fabric would emphasize the effect. |

The Chicago Star and a variation of
Fanny's Fan block were used to create this quilt. One of the Auto Borders
was used as inspiration for the border. |
We've had some beautiful sunsets this
Spring here in the high desert. |
Sunrises in my rear-view mirror on the
way to work in the morning. The green is the mossy Spring growth on
the mountain sides. |
Haven't had much time for EQ lately, and definitely
hadn't checked out any of the new features in EQ6, but a recent Guild
program got me started again. I love the automatic border feature. Thanks
to Jo Moury for challenging me to do this challenge. |
