I chose the colours from Black Vase II by Alfred Gockel.

I played with using a block as a quilt layout and added automatic borders to the quilt before recolouring it

My colors came from a needlework picture of a birch forest with various fern and floral accents. I wanted to experiment with a single shape in a quilt that was not the usual Grandmother's Flower Garden.

Calimesa, CA

The color inspiration is the same picture of a birch forest. The layout makes this one a WOW.

Inspired by a photo of dark clouds passing high above a sunny Hawaiian beach (free download)
On Point layout - 2x2 15" Log Cabin Squares rotated to create warm band of yellows and browns surrounded by the cool blues of water and sky
Four Fans Six Blades block set in center with Hawaiian Appliqué Scroll block set on Layer 2
Finishing triangles are parts of Log Cabin square in yellows
The borders around this idyllic scene include the blue gray of the storm clouds passing above
Border 1 narrow Mitered
Border 2 Auto border Scroll with Thorns and Diamonds modified by removing diamonds. Corner blocks set with modified Hawaiian Applique Scroll blocks

Ridgefield, NJ

Inspired by photograph I took of the Lily Ponds at Longwood Gardens Kennett Sq, PA
This wallhanging uses the same layout as the 1st quilt however here the 2 x 2 On Point squares are set with merged Twisted Log Cabin + Tilted 6 blocks
Corners were set with ¼th of a green Log Cabin block while center finishing triangles are ½ of a Twisted Log Cabin
Four Fans Six Blades block is set in the middle with appliqué motifs of a Water Lily, Lily Pads & Reeds from the EQ Appliqué Library set on Layer 2 in the center of the block

Pink Me

My friend makes Kaleidoscopes, and the changing colors and patterns are fascinating to see. My goal here was to imagine movement of the shapes and colors.

I just got back from vacation and this is a picture from when we were waiting in line to go see the National Archives.

Just as the challenge was annouced, I got an abstract picture in an email that was mostley pink, yellow, and gray. I think it is an unusual combination but I quite like it.
