May 2007 Challenge: Baskets and Embroidery (Page 2)
Use the EQ6 Block Library and the Embroidery Library to design a quilt highlighting baskets and their contents. Or design your own block and/or embroidery. You must use embroidery somewhere in your design.

I started out with the Wedding Ring Block and copied over it a basket block and then deleted lines not needed and placed an embroidered rose in each basket. Ontario, Canada |
Okay, this one was a tough one for me as I have never tried anything with embroidery. I kept it rather basic but I am pleased to say that I did learn things about using embroidery in EQ6. Columbus, Oh |
WOW this was so much fun. This is the first challenge I have taken part in and it will not be the last. I learned a lot while having a lot of fun. I have a Husquvarna Sewing and Embroidery Machine. So I was very interested in learning to import my designs in to EQ6. Coquitlam BC Canada. |

The idea of a wedding ring quilt with appliqued flowers on the rings is very appealing. The thought of doing all of that applique, though, is daunting! Perhaps this would be a little less intense. Lebanon, ME |
Last fall, I made a similar quilt - with a different center block and quilted, not embroidered, butterflies (a much softer look). I used the borders on layer one when designing, but contructed with the oversized settign blocks of layer two. The octogaonal shape was a little difficult to hang at our guild show! Lebanon, ME |

My daughter loves purple, butterflies and flower gardens. I started
a diamond log cabin and was not for sure how to finish it, until now. |
One of these baskets is not like the others, making a nice conversation quilt for a child. The basket is EQ6's Cruved Handle Basket, 3 Foundation Pieced - Baskets. The embroidery designs are from EQ6 Embroidery Library. They were
resized using the Adjust tool on Laryer 3. Care must be taken when
re-sizing actual embroidery designs to ensure quality stitching. |

This quilt is out of season, I know. I am just finishing a snow people quilt using swap blocks and embroidered snow people and snow flakes. This isn't a duplicate as I didn't draw all the blocks in my quilt but it is similar. The embroidery includes baskets with snowflake, hopefully, to fit the challenge of Baskets and Embroidery. I kept this to a wall hanging size. The embroidery fits better just as it would if you actually created the quilt. Calimesa, CA |
What an easy way to embroider the design, if the design could be sewn that large. Inner thin border and final border on pillow are fabric-covered cording. South Florida

I have been planning on doing a hexagon basket, but wanted it to be a little different from everyone else. This maybe it, if I can quit switching the colors and start cutting. One thing I learned doing the project was the software does not allow Block placement in the One Block layout, not even in the borders, but got around it by using the auto borders. Albany, NY |
When I thought of baskets and embroidery, I automatically had this vision of all kinds of sewing/embroidery goodies. Beavercreek, OH |

This is a quilt several years in the making. The redwork machine embroidered blocks were collected in several exchanges in Machine Embroidery Club. The ME designs you see in this entry are not exactly the designs I will use in my quilt since my collected designs came from many ladies across this country, England, Astraia and Africa. However, they convey the idea. I will only be using designs of birds, butterflys, flowers and small animasl in my quilt. I am now collecting fabric. The dark fabric is a Moda fabric called Friendly Forest. It has words of forest creatures and plants printed on it. the med. fabric is a tone on tone rose color baternical. the small sashing and borders are black marble and the white is a WOW vine design. I am looking forward to getting started on it. Charleston SC. |

I have always wanted to make a 'redwork quilt', but never had the time nor the patience. This quilt gives me a goal to work towards. Embroidery designs are from EQ5 Embroidery Library, and layout is from EQ5 Quilt Layout Library. Border design has been elongated/shrunk/flipped and rotated in order to create illusion of a continuous garland around quilt periphery. Rhode Island |
