March 2007 Challenge: Mattress-Sized Tops! (Page 3)

Design a quilt whose primary design will fit on the TOP of the bed. You will have to pay attention to mattress sizes and keep the design on the top of the bed space. Only borders can hang off the bed.

This is my first time making my own quilt.

This is my favourite border treatment. I have a lovely applique butterfly quilt which used this border.

For this one, I filled the center with some gorgeous quilting that I found in the EQ6 library (quilt motifs).

I defaulted back to EQ5 to do this as I haven't really had time to play much with the new version.

This very traditional looking quilt began with a basic Rose of Sharon flower which was used as a basis for the floral appliques designed for the center section, the outer border and for the stencil motif.
BTW, I used the technique shown in Andrea's excellent lesson on making scrolls in EQ6 to design the scrolls used in the appliques.

This King Size quilt top uses the 3 Log Cabin block from the EQ Library set into a Baby Block layout and brightly colored for a totally different look from the other quilt.
I used the new auto borders tool for the outer border.

This Quilt started out as a Quilt for my DSGD's bedroom, She is visiting during Spring Break. She wanted to make a quilt for her room and I needed to find something for her to do during her visit.

She went throught the 6" Squares in my sewing room and found fabric square she liked and layed them out in my office. When I showed her the challenge and how I wanted to use her quilt design. She added the coloring and the center block layout.

I actually made this quilt for my son using various dark and neutral prints instead of solids as pictured here. Only the neutral fabric in the quilt drop is a print to economize on the KB. The quilt turned out more gorgeous than I could believe and certainly this picture does not do justice to the real thing! I needed to use lots of plastic sndwich bags with note cards to label and store the pieces for each quilt block and a guide printed from EQ to keep the blocks organized because the fabrics in one block spill over into the adjacent blocks, like a tessellation! I never could have done it without the help from EQ to make fabric decisions and a plan for construction! Thank you, Penny and the EQ gang!

My first attempt at designing a bargello, I'm not happy with the results -- yet. The border is "Delectable Mountains." This is one I'll probably keep fiddling with...

How quickly can I design a second quilt... :-) Believe it or not, this was less than half an hours work!

I used the block that I designed for the February challenge. I have actualy sewn the block in miniature and was pleased with the results. This quilt is pretty bright for my taste but I had fun playing with the borders. The corner blocks were a challenge. I couldn't find what I wanted so I drew my own. This block is probably found somewhere but it was quicker to do it myself.

This design was inspired by my husband. I asked him to decide what design he would like for one of our bedrooms and he immediately said "STARS". The color scheme is my contribution. This is a Queen size quilt with a 16" drop.

It was really fun!!
I found Japanese Kanji can be used with
EQ6 ! How amazing !
