"Design a quilt for 6" (finished size) Nine Patch blocks. You may draw patches around the Nine Patch to create a new block, but you must maintain the complete Nine Patch unit. If the Nine Patch is part of a block, be sure to size the whole block so the Nine Patch unit will still be 6" square. Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to maintain a set SIZE for the target block in your design." - Barb Vlack

I drew a six inch nine patch with top and handles. Placed the design in a 3x3 on point layout with six inch sashing nine patch cornerstone. Although it is a very basic design I enjoy drawing the blocks and I love playing with all the fabrics. Gainesville, FL |
I edited the Urn Block keeping the six-inch nine patch in tact. I then edited the block again taking off all the half square triangles and replacing them with logs or steps. Gainesville, FL |

This is a quilt that I have actually made. I had a large collection of fabric swatches and it seemed such a shame not to use them. In the actual quilt there are more blocks as each swatch was 1 1/2 inches in size and the 9 patch block finish at 3 inches. 2,646 swatches were used and the remaining ones which were whites and off whites I pieced together to use for the label. For this challenge I increased the size of the block and removed a few rows from the width and length. London, Ontario |
I started off with the Dunce Cap block, changing the center into a 9 patch block. and then resizing the block to get a 6" nine patch block. London, Ontario |
I used a star from the embroidery library and with coloring, made the 9-patch planets float. Ft Wayne, Indiana |
I re-sized the nine patch and added some strips. Used rotation until this design came up. It gave me the illusion of a stairway. It would be very easy to construct. Just adding strips to your nine patch collection. Ft Wayne, Indiana |

Quick&Easy Charity quilt that I have made a number of times. I thought the setting was easy to piece quickly but can add lots of color. North Cape May, NJ |

Nine patch and 8 point star. I like the idea of companion blocks where one block completes its neighbour as in the 4 centre flowers. Northeastern Ontario |

Each attic window has the opportunity to be a different colored nine
patch and then add your favorite tea mug or coffee cup. |
This is my first submission. I got EQ5 for Christmas and have been playing around. I wish I could make quilts as fast as I can design them:) This is SOOO not my style, but I thought the gradient colors of the 9 Patch Plus block would be fun in here. Missoula, MT |
As mentioned on my other quilt, this is my first submission. Here, I thought I would play with the border and see how it could set off the inside blocks and give it more drama. Missoula, MT |

This block comes from the EQ library of Nine Patch. As this block is named summer winds I coloured it to represent the winds that blow the mango flowers off the trees here in the summer. Carnarvon WA Australia |

If making this quilt I would use various fabrics but have done it
with plain colours for this exercise. |

I pretended that I was in two nine patch exchange groups that I really might have joined. For this first quilt it was a nine patch block exchange made of "brights" fabrics, since I make a lot of children's quilts. Then I used the black, blue and yellow to unify the blocks. I can see myself actually making this quilt. I'd put a really fun multi-colored "children's" fabric on the back. Dd named this Monkey Bars. Matthews, NC |
In this quilt, I pretended that I was in another 9 patch block exchange, this time using steely blues and whites. I can see myself actually participating in such an exchange. I wanted to make something that looked like snowflakes, but alas, it always looked like ripples of water no matter what I did. So I gave in and called this quilt Ripples. Matthews, NC |
