December 2005 Challenge: Square and Point! (Page 4)

"Make a quilt with blocks set "on square." Then use the same blocks and set them "on-point" in a second quilt. You may see a big difference in their presentation! Which way do you prefer? " - Barb Vlack

These are fun quilts, I have messed around with these before doing this challenge. I love the color purple and like to use it and black in making quilts.

Fenton, MO

This was more of a challenge to put the blocks in the same order as the horizontal quilt. Great Fun.

The blocks in this quilt were designed based on some tile patterns I saw at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto. The fabrics used are from the Oct 2005 palette of snow fabrics

A simple 4 x 4 square setting of Mosaic No.2(2). Because of the block used, this is the one that ends up with many diagonals.

The same simple 4 x 4 layout of Mosaic No.2(2), but on-point. This turns out to be the one with the straight up and down angles.

The classic log cabin quilt is one of my favorites and also one of the first I made, though without the pieced center. It's still in use by my daughter when she's home from college. The design possibilities are almost endless!

Redwood City, California

This is based on an antique quilt I saw in a magazine. The original may have used wool fabrics and I love the on-point setting and the pieced block centers. Mine has a humility block like the original. I wish I could locate the original photo! I'd like to make this quilt some day and of course play with the design in EQ5.

used the Grandmother's Puzzle and Sister's Choice blocks. Rcolored both of them into the same blues and yellows. This was a fun project, something I like to play with a lot.

Love things set diagonally.

I only made one block when I used it in this quilt. I never changed it in anyway and really like the scrappy appearance.

Vermont

I think with a bit of color changes I could have a tree design ! I love on point designs.

This is the first challenge I have entered. I liked trying different fabrics and blocks to get the different looks. I used the POM-Handyed fabrics. This choice seemed to one of the few that stayed true to the colors at all scales.
