December 2005 Challenge: Square and Point! (Page 2)

"Make a quilt with blocks set "on square." Then use the same blocks and set them "on-point" in a second quilt. You may see a big difference in their presentation! Which way do you prefer? " - Barb Vlack

A straight set version of the same blocks and the same colors as the diagonal set (I controlled myself). I did add an inner border of half blocks for balance and an outer, virtual border just for fun.

Sunnyside, Washington

This quilt has 'Star Variation #3' and 'Economy' blocks set on point with straight borders. The inner border is done the hard way -- drafting another block -- for no other reason than that I felt like it.

I couldn't resist using Christmas colors for this easy and fun-to-do challenge.

I used Cross Within Cross and Texas Tears Blocks. This quilt is straight set and is my favorite of the two.

Once again, I used Cross Within Cross and Texas Tears blocks, this time set on point. I varied the coloration of the borders on this one.

I just drew up a variation on a 9 patch. I decided to put the Teddy Bears in for my EQ Quilt Guild pals Liegh and Marion who are Teddy Bear lovers like me. It was a nice relaxing quilt to make and I had fun doing it. It is also a very doable quilt.

Happy New Years Everyone.

The block I used for both quilts was a variation on a 9 Patch. Isn't fun just to take a block and play. I know it couldn't possibly be new but I did just play around until got this 9 Patch Variation. It amazed at how just changing one little colour took on a whole new look. Thanks again Barb. for inspiring us to step out of the box and try something new. I just kept on playing and playing until I came up with was new to me. Oh yes it's doable too.

I did this one first, then kept bouncing back to it from the on-point quilt because the second quilt gave me ideas for the first.

Well, I've had my EQ5 for 2 weeks! Here's my first-ever challenge! It was SO much fun!

I changed the dimensions and the border for the on-point quilt. Hey, it's EQ5! You're supposed to play!!! I think I like this one the best because, well, I just do!

Blocks are "Dakota Star" and "Rotate Me". I used Christmas fabrics just because it is a December Challenge. This quilt is worked in the "on point" setting. the border is done in the points in setting.
