For this quilt I chose 'Floating Fan' as the block since it is a quadrant. This tends to hide the blocks in the Special Effects - 15 layout. At first I designed the quilt using the whole block design, then edited the block to produce two complementary half square triangles. These were then substituted in the quilt in place of the whole squares originally used there, in order to produce the correct templates.

The border design flipped and rotated the quadrant design to get the alternating light-dark effect in the points.

The four small quadrants were placed on layer 2 and sized to fit the centre square.

I love turquoise and yellow together. The combination reminds me of blue skies and sunny days. I loved using them in this layout.

The layout for this quilt is "Special Effects 10". The blocks are a combination of ones from the Jinny Beyer web site, the AQS publication "Quilting Patterns from Native American Designs" and a couple I took from the fabric of one of my husband's shirts! I love the Southwestern desert area, and the colors remind me of that region.

A number of my friends have a lot of scrap fabric from projects and we brought all of it together to create quilts for Victims Katrina.

Since the scraps were all shapes and sizes this Irregular Grid seemed like the best use for them. It was easy and did not take a lot of thinking.

Info re-design; I put Double Wedding Ring blocks into the Special Effects No 3 layout and was amazed at the inticate design that resulted. I used my favourite colours of red and orange hues and tones in the gorgeous Kaffe Fasset range to create a design that I love so much, I plan to make it for myself! Please enlarge this design to get the full effect of the lovely flow of fabric colours in each ring.

I placed Box-in-a-Box and Stripe Blocks into Special Effects Variation 3, then played with the colours and ended up with this design. I absolutely love to use vibrant colour mixes and am currently working a lot with reds and oranges in various hues and shades, so I am very pleased with the result of this design.

This is the same Special Effects 6 custom setting with different blocks and a Tile on Point Corners border.
A Wyoming Valley block is set in the center, four others in a slightly different coloring are set in the corners around the center alternating with Girl's Favorite blocks. In the outer corners of the custom setting Goose in the Pond blocks are used.
Girl's Favorite & Goose in the Pond blocks are also used in the border.
It is surprising how different the same setting can look!
