Portrait

You might not recognize me on the street, but it is kind of fun to imagine multi-colored hair and a face with an attitude. I love quilts from the 30s. "Garden Treasure" is a vintage block. The face is from the Viking/Embroidery 1/Faces collection from the EQ5 embroidery upgrade.

Not quite as whimsical as my first example, but it is a quilt with a personal story. Only time, hope, love, and prayers can heal a broken heart. This face is also from the Viking/Embroidery1/Faces embroidery collection from the embroidery upgrade.

This is a Self Portrait of me, my wheel, and my little friend who likes to play with the yarn I create. I was a handspinner before I was a quilter, the Log Cabin quilt on the wall represents my future in quilting.

Inspired by Tracy Dennison's "Lil".

I am not good at drawing faces so my portrait is of a mysterious woman - she could be anyone you want her to be.

Appliques around the centre "self-portrait" are motifs to represent some of the things that define or make up my life. Some of the appliques came from the EQ library and were combined /or edited to make a grouping.

I drew my self portrait from a photo(probably better looking) and I drew all the things coming out of my head.
Most quilters have other interests and it is sometimes hard to find time for all of them.

Vivid Recollections

Bad Hair Day is the result of my not doing much EQing in the past couple of years. When you don't use it, you lose it! This month's challenge was so intriguing to me however, I had to at least try my hand at creating SOMETHING. I'm almost ashamed to submit her, but I had so much fun creating her, I felt I had to. Thanks for making me stretch.

Here is a virtual me, complete with cleft chin -- not near as dramatic as the one Kirk Douglas had -- and the wing of color in my hair -- not near as sophisticated as the one Dana Winters always had.

I built this layer upon layer so I could soften the edges with the thread color tool. And of course, it was a lot of fun!

Here I am with my eyepatch, ready for a session of reading, sewing, or computer fun.

The background block is the only complete unit in this quilt. The portrait is made with a dozen motifs, stacked on the second layer.

She just kind of grew, I don't know from where... :)

Thimble nose, rotary cutter hair, a well ironed dress, scissors for arms, rulers for legs and bobbins for eyes.

Here's the version with a light background. If I ever do her in fabric, I'll probably do some kind of pieced squares for a background.

Think she has a steamy relationship with her sewing machine? *giggles*

Little embroidered pins and needles for eyebrows might look cute, for embellishments. I'd originally meant for her face to be one of those football shaped pressing things, but it wouldn't be obvious unless you do a LOT of sewing..

I traced a photograph of myself and added images of things that occupy most of my free time- sewing, reading, and the outdoors. This is my first time doing the challenge; I've only been using EQ5 for a few months.

Well, I don't like to do my "autoportrait" so I went for connections... I love blue and I have a round shape... so this is where my mind went for this challenge!
