Morning Glory Vine

The border is an original design traced from a photo of a vine that grew in my backyard.

Daisies Are For Sunshine

I didn't think I would be able to participate this month as Hurricane Katrina had different plans for me.

We have spent the last few days just trying to get by without power and being pretty much confined to home. We're not complaining as we are too grateful to have our home intact and to be safe. Our hearts go out to those who have lost their homes and loved ones. It is devastating here in south Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama.
I have learned how much simple things mean. Tonight, I will be able to get a bath for the first time since Sunday night.

Today, when my dear husband finally obtained a generator and I could get online to check in with some friends, I saw the email saying the challenge was due today. What a simple thing....but it brought a diversion I desperately needed. I could work on the challenge and take my mind to a simpler place. I could create something beautiful to share with you all.

Although we're still sitting in darkness as we're not using lights, we're cool and the food in our freezer is safe. We could also offer help to a friend whose nebulizer needed charging.

Thank you EQ for providing me with a creative outlet and for helping me to stay sane in an insane, unimaginable time.

Another simple design that helped me get through today.

Don't attempt this at home

I liked the way the leaves of the center block were so prominent in the design, that I copied & pasted them into their own border blocks. The title of the quilt comes from the thought of having to do all those tiny bumps.

Poinsettia Pots Gone Wild

I had this quilt center in one of my existing projects. When I saw the challenge I thought "eh, why not?!" So I took the vine out of the library and pasted the leaves of the center wreath onto it.

Stripes in Stars

There's only one block, or should I say motif, in this quilt. The center is a Horizontal Strip set. Very easy!

Compass Star

I saw this border design used in an 1800's quilt -- though I changed the corner blocks.

A Whole Lotta Limes

The lime slices around the edges were my first try at Patch Draw. I would use quilting or embroidery to define the lines in the lime segments. The "Key Lime Pie" block which was the inspiration for this border would be quite difficult to piece. Zoom in to see the 16 point star in the center with all the really slender, off center points.
