Club EQ Album: June 2005 Challenge: Altered Blocks! Page 12

Take a block from the EQ Block Library. Consider ways that parts of that block could be used to create two different blocks. In other words, delete units from one block to create something new. Use those deleted units to create a second block. You can do this with the block on the block drawing worktable. For the first round, delete lines that make units in the block. Save to the Sketchbook. Then recall the same block to the drawing worktable and delete the lines you saved the first time but keep the ones you deleted the first time. You should have two coordinating blocks to use to design a two- or three-block quilt.

For this challenge, you will be allowed to submit up to 2 quilts total.

Pennina
Mosaic Gates

This is the same quilt as the first, but with a different border where I tried to continue the quilt blocks into the border. I think I almost succeeded, but various colourings showed me that I could still come up with something better.

Star Crossed

I used the block "Crosses and Star" and delelted the star in one of the new blocks. In the other altered block I deleted the center square. This quilt is set on point.

Floating

I used the "Merry Kite" block. Removing different lines in each of the alternate blocks gives the design the illusion of floating.

Crushed Jewels

The four white blocks are the Jewel block in disguise. The two other blocks are usd throughout in a symetrical fashion. after lots of trial variations this seemed worth keeping.

Marbled floor

I like this colouring better. It would make a great hall entranceway. Do you?
