Club EQ Album: June 2005 Challenge: Altered Blocks! Page 7

Take a block from the EQ Block Library. Consider ways that parts of that block could be used to create two different blocks. In other words, delete units from one block to create something new. Use those deleted units to create a second block. You can do this with the block on the block drawing worktable. For the first round, delete lines that make units in the block. Save to the Sketchbook. Then recall the same block to the drawing worktable and delete the lines you saved the first time but keep the ones you deleted the first time. You should have two coordinating blocks to use to design a two- or three-block quilt.

For this challenge, you will be allowed to submit up to 2 quilts total.

Block Used: Star Var. 3

This is my second EQ challenge and I feel a little more confident this time. Creating a 2nd block by modifying the first has opened a world of possibilities for me.

Early Summer

I started this design with the Card Basket Block. I really like this technique. Almost everything that I tried made a nice design. I chose the two that I would most likely consider making into a quilt to send in for the challenge.

I printed out the original block two times then started to eliminate lines with a black marker. It was the only way I could look at the blocks and subtract lines in EQ. I added a heart applique in the center of some of the blocks.

I started out with Mosaic No. 13 from the EQ library. I had a hard time getting my head wraped around this challenge I still don't know if its right.

Sedona Star

Manipulating the Sedona Star produced a number of different quilt options. I was thinking browns and oranges and think they work pretty good here.
