Club EQ Album: March/April 2005 Challenge: Hide the Block! Page 5 Take a block, color
it, and set it into a horizontal set quilt with a 3x3 or 4x4 layout. (This
is the "before.") Then create a second quilt with the same block,
same layout, and change the color in such a way that you lose track of
the original block. (This is the "after.") This is a great exercise
in coloring secondary designs, creating transparencies, or using traditional
blocks with non traditional color combinations. This challenge was suggested
by Jane Jacobson (aka ForestJane), and it is a fun one to create! -Barb Vlack |

Monique R. The block is from the eq5 block library. I think it is amazing how different the colored quilts appear! I really enjoyed this challenge. Needham, MA |

Merry Endres This quilt uses the traditional coloring of the Whirlwind block and features a scrappy array of homespun fabrics. |
Merry Endres Here, the Whirlwind block morphs into pinwheels when colors are placed in different areas. |

Merry Endres The Right and Left blocks take on a traditional look in this baby quilt complete with heart-shaped quilting and a prairie point border. |
Merry Endres Here, the Right and Left block virtually disappears and is replaced by pinwheels on point. The Fancy Cats are from the Electric Quilt Embroidery Upgrade CD. |
Rory Kirby Making a 3 X 3 layout
makes this quilt look less effective than with 5 X 7, but the rules
said 3 X 3, or 4 X 4! Victoria, BC |
Rory Kirby Original block, based on colouring of the centre block and modified by making a false blue border inside the 3 true borders. The trick compared with the first quilt is to colour to emphasize the tilted squares. Victoria, BC |

Suzan Engler I drew this block using easy draw. I like the light and lacy look. Panorama Village, Texas |
