Club EQ Album: March/April 2005 Challenge: Hide the Block! Page 11 Take a block, color
it, and set it into a horizontal set quilt with a 3x3 or 4x4 layout. (This
is the "before.") Then create a second quilt with the same block,
same layout, and change the color in such a way that you lose track of
the original block. (This is the "after.") This is a great exercise
in coloring secondary designs, creating transparencies, or using traditional
blocks with non traditional color combinations. This challenge was suggested
by Jane Jacobson (aka ForestJane), and it is a fun one to create! -Barb Vlack |

Sheila Fowler The Snail's trail was the starting
point in this exercise for me. It is one of my favourite blocks. I love its flowing
lines. One day I actually make my own version of this old fashioned delight! Victoria, British Columbia, Canada |

Andrea Poulimenos (soon to
be Bishop) This is one of the blocks from a virtual puzzle quilt I did where you used the regular block *and* the hidden block in the same quilt. You use 6 blocks and their counterparts to get a 3x4 quilt and then try to find the pairs within the quilt. Bowling Green, OH, USA |

Sheila Williams This block is from a class I teach on lines. It shows what we can do with the drawing features in EQ5. Looks link a tradition blocks but it is not. take a look at the single block. |
Sheila Williams Can you find the basic block? I recolored and used the symmetry tool on the layout. This block is from a class I teach on lines. It shows what we can do with the drawing features in EQ5. |

Dorothy Atkinson I designed the Block in this quilt.
When I design now I try to make sure that the quilt is doable. In other words could I sew it.?
I put the black border which is something that I wouldn't ordinarily do but quilts are stories to me. When I put the black right next to the quilts and then the birght colours again because I believe that no matter what darkness there is, the light will shine through. If you keep on believing . |
Dorothy Atkinson The block is the same block I used in
"The Light Will Shine Through." |
Dorothy Atkinson Block in the border is from Pattie Anderson's Book EQ5 Draw
I designed the block in the quilt.
The same blocks are used as in "The Trail Home."
Colouring the block and again using the Rotate Tool gave a whole new look. |
Dorothy Atkinson I designed the block and thought that the block from EQDraw by Pattie Anderson would compliment the block that I drew.
It reminded by of an Aboriginal Quilt.
This block ended up being fun because I could get a lot of different looks by changing the colours of the block and also moving the block using the Rotate Tool. |

Lisanne Bainbridge The Eight-Pointed Star block is attractive in its own right, and has infinite potential for recolouring. England |
Lisanne Bainbridge Here are some of the symmetric shapes that are possible. There could be an infinite number of asymmetric shapes. England |
Lisanne Bainbridge Here are some more symmetrical patterns, also showing the possibility for diagonal lines diamonds and circles. They could all be drawn overlapping with transparency effects. England |
