Club EQ Album: January 2005 Challenge: Recipes! Page 1
Illustrate your favorite recipe or be inspired by your favorite recipe for your design! And then --- type up the recipe in your email or attach the recipe as a document (.TXT, .DOC, .RTF). We'll have a double whammy: quilt design and a recipe or two to share among participants.

Padilla This
challenge was right up my alley, because Patch Draw is probably my favorite
EQ5 feature and the theme for this month's challenge seemed to lend
itself for an appliqué design. I placed a divided block on Layer
1 and then drew all the motifs and arranged them on Layer 2 ... as simple
as that. Since the design is very busy, I opted for very simple borders,
with a fabric from the Provençal Palette for a true French flavor. |
Anna Scott All appliques are
original blocks by me. |

Hawley I love to make and
serve this style of roasted chicken. Even the breast is very moist and
tender. And the fat drains off into the pan. |

Charlotte Kleiner When picking a favourite recipe to make into a quilt design, I also looked for a block that would represent that recipe -- Snail's Trail came to mind. I decided to make a "recipe card" wall hanging or tray cloth for this favourite breakfast treat that is quick and easy to make. I'm not sure just where this recipe originated - like many recipes it was passed on from one person to another and so on... I got my version of this recipe from a good friend, Laurie G. who introduced it to me when we were cooking together at a family camp. It was a hit, especially served in the morning with oven baked omelet. |

Cheryl Coville If you look closely, you will see mounds of creamy walnut pate spread on crackers. I just got EQ for Christmas and this is my first attempt at a quilt design with it. I started with a basic block from the library and added some curved lines since I love the challenge of sewing curves. Lyndhurst, Ontario, Canada |
Carol Ann Schultz Very simple Recipe. Just put any cheddar cheese and ham on a chacker and serve them on a colorfull plate for any party or gathering. Tucson, AZ |

In our area, where we have a large Polish population, cabbage rolls, also known as "Pigs in a Blanket" are very popular. This design was inspired by a wooden Intarsia project my husband had made for my sewing room and those tasty cabbage rolls. Of course, our piggy is laying on a quilt of, what else, cabbage roses, surrounded by a border of tomato sauce red! Washington, PA |

| Daphne Stewart All blocks and motifs are original. I love to build 'still lifes' in EQ but I have never carried them out in fabric. This is OK, though, because I have a lot of fun drawing and it does no harm ... except maybe to the housework that doesn't get done. My recipe for this challenge is Stuffed Peppers. We liked this when we were newly married; it's a recipe that's easy on the budget. Forty-plus years later, we like them for their taste. Sunnyside, Washington |
Daphne Stewart I'm making this wall quilt in dark blue and pale lavendar, but as I was preparing a cherry cheese cake, I kept picturing the quilt in reds and pinks. It was either inspiration or one more senior moment. "Summer Winds" is the block in the center of this nine-block quilt. The blocks on the sides and in the corners are "Summer Winds" in simplified variations. Fun! Sunnyside, Washington

Dorothy Atkinson I drew most of
the patches freehand, except for the vegetables which are in EQ. |
Dahn Casselman Because my recipe is of Texas or Mexican heritage, I designed this wall hanging to reflect that flavour. Bright and bold and spicy. There is some poetic licence in this piece as several of these vegetables are not in the recipe, but such is the imagination that soars in its own world, scarcely glancing at my intended design. Enjoy! Yukon, Canada |

| D. Whitehead I drew the block myself and used the baby block setting to get this sort of triple wedding ring effect. I like the six pointed stars that occur at the intersections. |
Elaine G. This is my daughter's favorite pie that has apples, pears, and a handful of cranberries in it. The recipe was given to me by my cousin's wife many years ago. Texas |

| Jane Forest The bunch of grapes is from the EQ block library, the rest of the blocks are my own design. The dripping stick thing on the upper right of the central block is supposed to be one of those honey dippers... the recipe is for a honey lime sauce to drizzle over the fruit. Memphis, TN |

Janet Tannahill The border represents salad because that has become a main ingredient in my diet! I have reduced the fat in the soup so it is pretty healthy and it is so easy to make and it makes a lot so there is more time for working on quilts! Mission, KS |
Leanne Davis The 'Turkey' and 'Corn & beans' blocks come from the EQ5 block libraries. The layout is one of the EQ5 irregular grid layouts The red in the 'corn & beans' blocks represents the parmigianna sauce, the cream/yellow is for the cheese on the schnitzel Adelaide, South Australia |
