Club EQ Album: January 2004 Challenge: Two Blocker! Page 5

Two Blocker. Use two different blocks (from the EQ Block Library or ones you've drawn yourself and are willing to share), and create a quilt that shows how these two blocks blend into each other. Lines that appear to connect from one block to the next will be more apparent if you do not use sashing in the layout.

The two blocks I used are the Daffodil Ring and the Nine Patch Star. My intention was to create some kind of framing around the daffodils, but when I placed these two grey scale blocks together I noticed the circle shapes and started coloring. Powell, TN

Rainy Nights Starry Nights

This quilt is based on a real quilt I made for my great niece as an autograph quilt. She was feeling blue about moving to a different state and I explained that if she had autographs (the rainy part) from her friends it would help her remember the happy times. New friends could autograph the starry blocks as she created new happy memories.

This one sent me way out of my usual interest or style; I'm not much into redwork other than to recognize it and admire it for what it is. I spent quite a bit of time with many blocks and had some interesting patterns; my personal favorite to me looked like monkeys in the jungle but I showed it to 2 other people and they said "what monkeys, where?" so I decided I was too far out with that.... This one is traditional and scrappy, neither of which I have any prior experience in being!

I thought the "snowball" blocks would be great for some creative quilting! In my mind I see the floral squares with some great Asian inspired fabric hiding in my stash. Long Island Liz

I really like designs that have circles or curves in them. These two blocks use straight lines to create the illusion of curves. Alexander, ND

My very first quilt designed on EQ5 for the Jan 2004 Two-Block Challenge, using the Lobster Claw and the Striped Lattice Work block found in EQ5. I used the Waving Grid for the quilting on the Striped Lattice Work block; I would stitch in the ditch on the Lobster Claw blocks, and probably add some weird, funky quilting stitch in its center. OK, so it's ugly (hence the title). Heck, this is my first quilt design ever ! And I admit I've only made "kit" quilts - small ones. This isn't really my style so I may never make it, but I actually like what happened. There is a lot of movement and lots going on. My eyes constantly travel around this quilt. I tried a couple of combinations and even though these two blocks don't exactly match up, they seem to flow up, down, across and sideways. I ended up being intrigued by it. It almost looks like the black/white/green/read is overlaid with the greens/tans/purple. It has diamonds, stars/pinwheels. Even though it ain't pretty, I am proud of my first effort.
