Club EQ Album: January 2004 Challenge: Two Blocker! Page 3

Two Blocker. Use two different blocks (from the EQ Block Library or ones you've drawn yourself and are willing to share), and create a quilt that shows how these two blocks blend into each other. Lines that appear to connect from one block to the next will be more apparent if you do not use sashing in the layout.

This is pure play. I saw the Dog Tooth Violet block on Block Central then changed everything. I've included the original block so you can see how much mine doesn't look like the original. Bertha Hawley in eastern Tennessee

Skewed Ribbons

I like to take traditional blocks and skew them. These are Star Variation and 9 Patch/Snails Trail blocks. I flipped, rotated, and recolored so the original blocks disappear. Bertha Hawley in eastern Tennessee

This quilt shows the combination of two "simple" blocks. I used solid colors to emphasize the pattern.

The World's Crown

I think the World's Fair and Crown of Thorns blocks make a good combination. I chose "Woodland Pines" Moda fabrics for a country flavor. This would make a great cabin quilt to snuggle up in by the fire. This idea came from the book by Nancy Mahoney; "Pairing Up 2-block quilts". Williston, ND

Lace in Space

ClubEQ challenge for Jan 2004 Kathleen Potvin Ft Wayne, Indiana Same blocks, different pieced border. Makes a nice frame. I like designs that blend, making it difficult to find the blocks. Another project I may have to make.

Stars on Parade

Club EQ Challenge for Jan 2004 Kathleen Potvin Ft. Wayne, Indiana I looked for blocks with matching grids. These are both 5-patch blocks. They are from Blockbase. I created a different illusion by coloring some patches the same as the background. This quilt appears set on point, only the border is on point. It

Tulips?!?

The flower block is called Tulips in the EQ library. Some of the blocks were simplified for the borders and corners, and a motif from the second block was added to the corners. could be. This is one of those quilts that looks much better with no outlines.

Light Games

The light game is new for me. It was fun to make the light blocks and even more fun to put in some random colorings.

Two-Block Quilt

EQ5 Jan '04 Challenge, version 1 To meet the challenge of creating a two block quilt, I used a 7x7 grid in Easy Draw and created the star block first. Then I drew a second block after converting the first block to guide lines, so I could make sure that things would line up to create a secondary pattern. The second block was meant to be a simpler block so that the star block could shine. I had to do some tweaking so that the star block can be paper pieced in 4 sections. The other block's 4 corners can be paper pieced and then sashed together to create the whole block. The first version is a 3x3 quilt so you can see the specific blocks. In the second version, a 7x7 quilt, you can see the secondary pattern more clearly. I drew these blocks from scratch, but I don't know if they are truly unique or not. I enjoyed making them and tweaking them for paper piecing. The fun part, and hard part, was narrowing down the different color variations to just two quilts. I called the one a star block but when combined with the other block, I think it looks more like a very fancy bow, hence the name Lucky Bow 7.
