Club EQ Album: January 2004 Challenge: Two Blocker! Page 2

Two Blocker. Use two different blocks (from the EQ Block Library or ones you've drawn yourself and are willing to share), and create a quilt that shows how these two blocks blend into each other. Lines that appear to connect from one block to the next will be more apparent if you do not use sashing in the layout.

Greater than the Sum of the Blocks

Boise & Economy ll are placed in a horzontal layout giving the illusion of an on-point set. Partial blocks have been carried out into the first border. Jane Turgeon

Lebanon, MO I was after something with a floral feel to it, but not curvey. This ls best when the lines are all turned off.

Lebanon, MO I knew these would go together, but it took me forever to get the look I was after! This reminded me of little knomes holding hands and dancing, and the colors are very wintery, so the name!

Facets

This origional design was made from the EQ5 block Slashed Album and a block I named Road Work, that was edited from the EQ5 block, Cross Roads. The design has an Op Art effect and is fun to try various color arrangements to see how much it changes the design. I used some of the same yellow prints in both of my quilts to cut down on the file size. Lynne Chambliss, Tucson, AZ, USA

Diamond Twister

This is an origional design that I made by combining two EQ5 blocks, Slashed Album and Electric Fan with three borders, two mitered and one Big and Little Diamonds. I liked the way the two blocks merged when set on point and the variety of yellow prints brought the diamonds and pin wheels in front of the stark black and white background. Bailey's Quilt I

Des Moines IowaThis was actually one of my first design projects when I got EQ5, and is still one of my favorites. It uses blocks and fabrics included in the EQ5 library. I love batiks, so used them, and love the "glowing" effect!

Des Moines Iowa Also a simple quilt, designed with a winter look in mind. Used winter batiks and cool colors. Easy - I would really like to make both these quilts someday!

The Secret Garden

I used a combination of 2 blocks from the EQ5 library: Lily Wreath and Daffodil Ring. I originally designed this to be a Christmas quilt, but my 17 year old daughter said that, in looking at this quilt from a distance, it reminded her of a bunch of tiny garden mazes which could, ultimately, lead to "The Secret Garden." Hence the name.

Jeweled Kaleidoscope

I used the Klondike Star from within EQ5's library, and then modified it to use as the second block. I like the kaleidoscope effect of this quilt, and hope you will, too!

The blocks are from the EQ5 Library: Amaryllis Bulb and Cornucopia This quilt commemorates our first Thanksgiving and Christmas in Texas after a 20 year absence. The cornucopia reflects on all of our new blessings which include a new home and being within visiting distance of family and old friends again. The amaryllis bulb depicts my successful raising of an amaryllis bulb to bloom in time for Christmas.

Old Violet's Perplexity

The Dogtooth Violet and Old Maid's Puzzle were combined in this on point 5 X 7 quilt to make a formidable top with more than 2,300 pieces! The seam lines make a tantalizing series of shifting curves which never quite stop moving. Rory Kirby, Victoria, BC
