Club EQ Album: January 2004 Challenge: Two Blocker! Page 1

Two Blocker. Use two different blocks (from the EQ Block Library or ones you've drawn yourself and are willing to share), and create a quilt that shows how these two blocks blend into each other. Lines that appear to connect from one block to the next will be more apparent if you do not use sashing in the layout.

Overlapping Points

I used Economy and Mosaic No. 21 blocks to create this on-point quilt for the January 2004 challenge. This was my first coloring. I tried to make it shades of blue or purple, but it never looked quite as good as this one. I used a points-in border to extend the design, and I made a few fill-in blocks for the wedges. STAR OF INDIA

METAIRIE, LOUISIANA To make foundation patterns, quarter blocks in hourglass fashion with a square for center. Divide each quarter into strips, 2 units for block 3 and 3 units for block 4. If desired, Y seams can be eliminated by dividing center square in to hourglass fashion. Because there are many units, it is easier to piece if seam allowances are not included on the paper units. Practice. See Aquastar for a slightly different look. Block 4A is Block 4 modified.

Lucky Clover Chains

Charlotte Kleiner Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada The two blocks in this quilt are: BlockBase #4170 - Friendship Chain and BlockBase #1369 - Lucky Clover. For one of the borders I used part of the Friendship Chain block. And I used the central Four-patch of the Lucky Clover block to make the outer border.

Frost Last Night

This is the the Floating On Point #1 layout. I used the blocks "Four X Star" and a simplified "Pinwheel Square". I then floated a modified Pinwheel Square block on the border and clipped it to the edge. This may be the first challenge quilt I've done with no desire to use prints. Feels strange ...
