Oak Leaves and a Gecko

Designed for clubEQ challenge, October, 2003: Tessellations

Is the figure an oak leaf or a gecko? I assume it's some of each. Just for fun I had to have a gecko romping in the leaves. The quilt design and coloring evolved by using the figure to form a block.

Oriental Iridescence

I found this month's challenge especially exciting. And if I told you how many quilts I designed before finally settling on this one, I'm sure you wouldn't believe me! No wonder I design EQ5 quilts in my dreams. I picked this one because I really want to make it for my daughter-in-law Colleen, as these are her colors. Guess you know what I'll be shopping for at the International Quilt Festival in Houston in a couple of weeks.

HELP!! I've Lost My Square and Don't Know Where To Find It

My own twisted mind. This should be titled "I've Lost My Mind Trying To Do This".
I followed Barbs instructions from InfoEQ and this block happened. But try as I might to do another even very simple block, one node would not close. Even drawing a straight line and cloning and rotating left one node open. Five hours later, my hand is numb and my husband is hungry. I'm entering this lonely blob so I can get other peoples files and try to figure out where I'm going wrong.

Visualise

This was my first attempt at tessellations. I took Jinny Beyers Tessellations class in Houston and always wanted to try to create tessellations in EQ. Thanks to the challenge I had the courage to try it.

At last! This is something I have wanted to try for some time. I learned so much about EQ5 by doing this challenge.

Tess No. 2

Didn't try to make anything. This is addicting like wreathmaking. This time I just cloned and parked in place because it each motif had four sides that fit together. Voila, tessalation!

Unknown Tess

I did it like Jinny Beyer showed, but in EQ5 instead of cutting up a card. It was a challenge, that's for sure. Didn't even attempt to try to make it look like something. Not enough time for that.

Danka Kruszewska
Colourful Potpourri

Stars of Escher, funny cats, sloping fishes and rows of shaded T's are the easiest kinds of tesselations. You should display or print this quilt without outline Patches!

Puzzle

I tried to make a puzzle with plenty of single elements, but ... it is much easier to make a block of four elements! So I have designed this quilt in this way.

Hey, fellas, wait for me!

This does not fit the definition of true tesselation -- it isn't all connected and doesn't go on 'to infinity'. But this month's quilts are not being graded and they're not to be sewn. They're just to delight the eye.

I started with a triangle, pulled it apart and put it back together with the two top sides back-to-back. It's a bird!

Shape #7

This is another exercise that reminds me of eating peanuts: just one more...

I started with a square and came up with half this shape. I cloned that shape and put the straight edges together, converted that to guides, and traced it.

This was the first time I've had reason to use the 'Crop to ...' buttons. It makes me wonder what else EQ5 can do that I haven't discovered for myself yet.

Tessalating Tree Skirt or Tablecloth

Design inspired by: http://www.porcelainia.com/tess.html
63 x 62.25 - The 12 hexagonal blocks around the outside could be appliqued or embroidered with 12 days of Christmas. Omit the black areas. Print templates sized from quilt - delete partial templates and omit seam allowances to fit on 2 pages. For tree skirt, leave a slit opening from the centre hexagon space to the edge.

Faces in the Crowd II

Designed for a tessellation challenge.
My 3-sided patches only tessellate in a six patch circle. Partial patches are set in the corners to show more faces in the crowd, because at this point, I'd enjoyed all of this I could stand.

Faces in the Crowd

Designed as a Tessellation - the patches tessellate, but when I set them into a quilt the design didn't totally tessellate. Still, if you study it awhile, my 3-sided face blocks show up in the design.

This was the hardest challenge yet!! But I am very glad I participated in it. I learned so much about the program from this, and after all, that is what the challenges are for! I hope someone will take on the next challenge, and really make this quilt!
