Club EQ Album: July 2003 Challenge: Bargellos! Page 2

"Design a bargello quilt. You may use a design from the Layout Library and experiment with color, or do something completely different. Challenge yourself to create a unique setting for bargello. You may get some inspiration by studying canvaswork (a.k.a. needlepoint) bargello designs."

Marbled bargello

What can I say? The directions didn't require that we actually make it! This is a curved variation of the basic bargello block. Perhaps a modification of the "bullseye" raw edge construction style might work for this.... Original design.

Basic 2 column offset bargello block in varied widths strips; some rotated. (Some blocks can also be flipped for another neat effect.) Vertical strip set.
Establish a random flow of one color, then fill in with related colors. Original.

I like the colors in this one alot. Once you start changing the colors, it's very easy to play nonstop!

Most Bargello quilts I have seen have the dark color on the bottom. Here is how it changes the look by changing the colors.

This was the first time I tried a bargello quilt in EQ and it was a lot of fun, though coloring the blocks took forever!

Now that I understand this concept, I think I'll design the Bargello that I've always wanted to...this was a fun learning experience for me, and more a play with colors.
