Club EQ Album: March 2003 Challenge: Let's build up the User Library! Page 5

"We can never have too many blocks. Submit two copyright free blocks, preferably ones you designed, that are not presently in the EQ5 Block Library or in any EQ product. You may demonstrate how to use them in a quilt, but you don't have to. Submitting the two blocks will be terrific. Any kind of block is eligible. Please put a note on the Notecard to identify you as the designer and tell us something about why you designed this particular block."

Rounded Violets

Both of these blocks began with a traditional block called Dogtooth Violet. I converted the block to guides and then started playing with curved lines to replace some of the straight ones. These are the result.

Kokopelli

This is an original block that I used for a quilt that I made for Quilt Universy. Besides curved piecing, I was working on color tranparency.
This is an applique block for the quilt Kokopelli Sunrise quilt. He is one of the first patch drawings I have made and used.

Blooming Chain
Desert Cactus

This block was created to alternate with other blocks to create a fun chain effect. Depending on use of shashings you can get a flower or star effect.
I wanted to create a cactus basket block where I didn't have any set-in seams. Then while working on it I decided I wanted the block itself put on point and then added the extra corner pieces to create stars or flowers depending on your use of sashings.

Quilt is made from several colorings of just 2 curved blocks created in EQ4 after I attended a July Dales "curves" class. I wanted a gentle curve that could be pieced easily. I later saved them into EQ5 and made this "mini" quilt.

I'm still playing with overlaying one block on another - the challenge from a few months ago. Using EQ5 to mixing blocks and borders is one of my favorite passtimes. Better yet -- sometimes I manage to make some of my quilts as well!

I was looking to see how the quilt would look with this color range. Had a class, and am now working on getting some done.

This is simply the cornucopia block rotated, because I wanted to see what kind of pattern it would make when set in a quilt with points together
This block was originally a little less complicated for a central block in a quilt that I am making, then I got to modifying it to make it work as a block on its own. I added more rays and then the whole fan section. Would make a pretty central panel turned either way.

To make this quick and easy, use a print rather than paper piecing the center.
