Club EQ Album: March 2003 Challenge: Let's build up the User Library! Page 4

"We can never have too many blocks. Submit two copyright free blocks, preferably ones you designed, that are not presently in the EQ5 Block Library or in any EQ product. You may demonstrate how to use them in a quilt, but you don't have to. Submitting the two blocks will be terrific. Any kind of block is eligible. Please put a note on the Notecard to identify you as the designer and tell us something about why you designed this particular block."

Old Saybrook Lighthouse

Saybrook Star

This block represents the nautical heritage of my town which is at the mouth of the Connecticut River as it empties into Long Island Sound. The light house is a rough copy of the one which stands on the breakwater at the mouth of the river. It is an Overlaid block and I drew the pieced part first and then drew the lighthouse and copied and pasted it on to the overlaid block.

I drew this block 10 x 10 inches. I graded the colors from dark to white, used the darkest in the smallest triangle, skipped a shade for each larger triangle and the last square.

E Heart
D Heart

I enjoyed doing this challenge as I had planned to create this for my best friend in Brantford, Ontario. I will be making it very soon. I used country set so I could center the hearts. All the letter hearts are my own design. I modified the applique cat and flower blocks taken from the EQ library. I know I will enjoy the process because it is whimsical layout & employs a variety of techniques.

I just started with a blank block and began drawing lines. The new symmetry tool in EQ5 is a quick way to see if your block has any potential.

Lady Bear

Baby Bear

I am making a quilt for my SIL, whose favorite animal is a bear. I wanted this bear to have more than a "cookie cutter" shape, but not overly complex features.
One of two bear blocks I drew for a quilt I am making for my SIL. This bear has a simple shape, because she will be holding a card with a poem on it.

Grass Frog

This is the first time I have traced a design in the Electric Quilt program. I scanned one of the blocks I drew for the baby quilt I am making for my grandson. I found the tracing process fairly easy to do in EQ5. My original designs for the circus blocks in the baby quilt were drawn on paper but I've wanted to use the tracing feature in EQ5 so decided this was the time to start and picked the seal block for my great adventure.

This is a block that I had draw from one in BB2. I can't remember which on though. Boo Hoo! But for my first attempt it turned out ok.
This is a new block from the Lock and Chain block in BB2, #1792. I had deleted some lines and added others for the April 2003 Challenge.
