Club EQ Album: March 2003 Challenge: Let's build up the User Library! Page 2

"We can never have too many blocks. Submit two copyright free blocks, preferably ones you designed, that are not presently in the EQ5 Block Library or in any EQ product. You may demonstrate how to use them in a quilt, but you don't have to. Submitting the two blocks will be terrific. Any kind of block is eligible. Please put a note on the Notecard to identify you as the designer and tell us something about why you designed this particular block."

Motifs for this design were drafted to make a lily block in a memory quilt I am making for my youngest granddaughter, who was adopted in China last year.

Modern Quilt

Two altered blocks making a modernistic looking quilt. Taking traditional blocks, altering them and playing with the colors was fun.

Bloggs Deception

This original block was prepared as a geometrical 3-D block, with points at the midpoints to permit good flow regardless of the rotate/flip moves made.

This is an original design, designed to give an unexpected effect when Alt-Rotate is ued. See the related quilts

Terry DeVine
Fairest Wheel Variation (blank center)
Fairest Wheel-use

This block is a take off from a churn dash variation from a Thimbleberries ad... see the calico puzzle block in Block Base. Original block was colored in two colors while this has three in format on notecard. Set on point with a variation of Fairest Wheel (blank center) and recolored so corner hearts make a secondary or tertiary pattern, there are many possibilities. My block was designed for a local challenge using a bright stripe. Another modification of this was used producing a small blue and yellow quilt currently titled "Ode to Ceiling Fan" in honor of it being first quilt sewn in sewing room since death of overhead light and then installation of light/ceiling fan replacement. That baby quilt will be renamed before presentation to baby due in May 2003. I would also mention that I found/find "Hidden Block Quilts" by L. Nevaril to be inspirational for block design.

Curve Cluster Block
Sheila's Curve

This was the result of a lesson in creating curves using "EasyDraw".

This block was the first result in a lesson designed to help students learn how to create curve blocks using EasyDraw and PatchDraw. We liked the secondary pattern that the block creates in a quilt layout. It was also great fun for learning how to sew a curve block.

The Chicken Frame-up
Judee's Ring

This block would work well to showcase a favorite fabric. Or use it to frame photots. I designed this myself. This is my first submission to Club EQ

I started with a basic 5 patch and drew symetrical lines till I liked it. Depending on the colors used, you could have many blocks. This block/coloration looks good on point. I designed this block myself.

Martha Flanagan
Annie's Shoes

I designed the shoes for my niece for her High School graduation. She has loved shoes since she was in preschool and wrote the essay that got her into an Ivy League University on her love of shoes. There were 4 different shoes. Two different heights and two different heel sizes. Each shoe was paper pieced in tone on tones and trimmed with lace, ribbon, or jewels. The border/backing fabric had shoes in it.

Trellis

I designed this block based on the center of an antique quilt owned by a friend. It should probably have been done as several blocks, but I'm pretty new to EQ and couldn't figure out how to do the corners. This worked.

Buzzsaw

I started with a Mariner's compass block and made changes to design this block. Coloring the one piece with the background color makes those sawblade teeth look great! How about stretching it into and oval for a different look.
