"Your intention as to whether this label will be pieced, appliquéd, or simply printed out onto fabric is up to you."

Ethel Mecklem
Quilt Label

label: "Designed & Created by Ethel Mecklem January 2003"

I thought Barb Vlacks idea of designing a quilt label that could be used as the first design in each of our Challenge designs was a great idea. It would identify the designer of each quilt as they were run in EQ Show. For this label I used some of the grape vine applique blocks in EQ. I deleted their backgrounds in Patchdraw and used them in layer 2 in the border. For the lettering in the center of the label, I used Lucinda Calligraphy font from Microsoft Word and traced the letters in Patchdraw. Then I placed each letter on the center, again, in layer 2. Now all I will have to do in the future to change the date and design is replace the month letters with the appropriate letters for that month. The border blocks can be changed to fit the particular design of the quilt it precedes. This was a very challenging project and it was a lot of fun.

Barbara Rotondi
Flower Label

label: "This quilt was made by Barbara Rotondi for her niece Christie's sixteenth birthday in 2003."

This label was made using the EQ5 Wildflower ring block which was colored and then exported so the lettering could be added using one of the Paint programs. This is my second challenge and I am enjoying seeing what others do and extending my knowledge not only of EQ5 but also other tools that are useful. (This is my first computer quilt program and I've only had it a few months.)

Charlotte Kleiner
Made With Love

label: "Made with Love by Charlotte Kleiner for My Niece February 14, 2003"

The lettering on this quilt label is Flatbrush Italics, which I traced in EQ5 as individual letter motifs and then copy and pasted and resized to fit into the heart shape. The tulip motif is from an EQ applique block. This label would be printed out on fabric and then appliqued to the back of the quilt. (I would put my niece's name instead of the words 'My Niece' in the actual quilt label.)

Challenge Block Label

label: "Christmas Ponsettia Created for ClubEQ Challenge - Superimposed Blocks - usign BlockBase #2683 Pincushion & #2587 Nebraska Windmill by Charlotte Kleiner Winnipeg, MB Canada - November 2002"

If I made up my challenge quilt from the November 2002 ClubEQ challenge, I would make a label like this. I would print this label onto fabric and then applique it to the back of the quilt. Font used is Cooper Black from an alphabet tracing exchange. Letters were copied, pasted and resized to get the correct size and placement. The picture of my block was exported as a bitmap and then imported as a picture and placed on layer 3.

Laurie Hopman
Label Challenge

label: "Made by Laurie Hopman Hilo, Hawaii January 2003"

I started with the Horizontal Center Medallions Layout and then chose blocks to set that I could rotate to appear whole and had some symbolism to me: log cabin blocks for the "from my home to yours" idea, and Storm at Sea fit with living in the middle of the ocean so far separated from so many that I love. The lettering was done in Paint with Lucida Sans size 16. I would turn off the outline and print in solic colors.

Nancy Anderson
Lily's Quilt

label: "Lilies for Lily Machine pieced and quilted Nancy Anderson Roslyn PA 2002"

I used the Lily block I drew in EQ 4 when I wanted to make a quilt for my new granddaughter. The idea for the quilt came from Quiltmaker #84, but I didn't want to use diamonds. I used the custom layout for the label. The text was typed in Paint, using Lucida Handwriting and saved as a bmp file and imported into the quilt as a picture. The size is 5"x5" when printed with adjusted margins.
