I Wish You Well label: "Made especially for you by Ima Quilter Christmas, 2003" Tablerunner layout with three blocks on point for applique blocks. Setting block, which is called "I Wish You Well" is used in the setting triangles. The curved ends are motifs that are overlaid where a border has been deleted at the top and bottom. St. Charles, Illinois USA cptvdeo@inil.com |
Beauty from Provence label:"This quilt was made by: Date: Location: Notes:" The table runner layout with three blocks on point was used for the basic setting. A triangle motif for the ends was set in Layer 2 over the area of a border that was deleted in order for the motif to exist without a block outline. Then a block on point was positioned over that. St. Charles, Illinois USA cptvdeo@inil.com |
Album-Variable Star VI label: "To keep you warm during the cold Vermont winters. By your niece Ruth, Florida" Made the text in MPI Photo and imported it into EQ5 as a bmp picture.Set in layer 3. click here to email Ruth |
Mom's Love Label 10" x 8" label: "Made With Love By Mom" The traced Arial letters were set onto Layer 2, on a white background in Layer 1. The blue and green outer borders are drawn with mitered corners, and the "pieced" blocks were set into a block type border. This is designed to be printed out with no block. border or patch outlines. I have actually made a variation of this, replacing the center text with my name, embroidered on, and then quilting the entire piece, for use as a name tag for a guild I belong to. It was very fast, easy, and unique. Somerville, TX click here to email Tricia |

"Melitta's Song" label label:" 'Melitta's Song' Quilt designed by Daphne Stewart Winter 2002-2003" In a perfect world, it would be as easy to find or create real life fabrics in these colors as it is to design them. Maybe that's the plan for heaven ... Sunnyside, Washington click here to email Daphne |
"My Heart is Glad" label label: "My Heart is Glad. Quilt made for Emily Wolff by her niece Daphne Stewart Winter 2002-2003" Did I enjoy designing this? Of course. Would I enjoy messing with real life pieces this small and fiddley? Don't be silly! Sunnyside, Washington click here to email Daphne |

Shoe Label label: "Made by Angie Padilla Quito, Ecuador Jan. 2003" This is another label for a wallhanging made last year. In this case, I created a bmp file of one of my applique shoe designs, opened it up in Photoshop and wrote in the text. I wanted the text to flow as closely as possible to the shoe, so this worked out really nicely. The font used in the text is French Script MT. Saved the file as a bmp file again and imported into EQ as a picture. I then used the same shoe block to create my own "fabric". In custom setting, I made multiple copies of the shoe and then rotated them in different directions. Saved that quilt as a bmp file and then imported again as fabric. This is probably the most important feature I've learned with this challenge. I love the idea of being able to make a "coordinated" label. You can see the original shoe wallhanging in the gallery on my website (designed in EQ4) |
Dancer's Label label: "Danza Para Ana Lia Padilla con mucho cariño de su tia Angie Quito, Ecuador - Navidad 2001" This is a label I actually made manually for a quilt I designed and made last year for a niece who is on her way to become a professional dancer. I had hand painted the shoes and traced the words onto my fabric, and then pieced the border. Doing it in EQ is so much easier! For the graphic, I used an applique block I had designed. Made a bmp copy of it and opened it up in Photoshop. For the title font I used Dolphin in outline format and then used the eyedropper and paint bucket tools to color it in with the same color of the shoes. The other font used is Gaze. I saved the file in bmp format again and then imported into EQ as a picture. click here to see the real quilt and label in the gallery on my website. Quito, Ecuador click here to email Angie |
"Grandpop's Chile" placemat label: blank The idea for this placemat came about one evening last August when our daughter and grandchildren were home for a visit. As we sat around the dinner table one night, we composed a little off beat poem describing one of our favorite meals, Grandpop's chile. After everyone went to bed that night, I sat down at the computer and designed this placemat to compliment the poem and printed out a mini poster of the placemat plus poem and hung it on the refrigerator for everyone, especially Grandpop, to enjoy the next morning. click here to email Barbara |

"Grandpop's Chile" quilt label label: "Grandpop's Chile stupendous, awesome, original It's the best! Mouth-watering, gratifying, tummy-filling Texas Ambrosia! Poem composed by Elizabeth, Shannon, Kieran, Anlon, and Grammy Placemat designed by Grammy Summer 2002" This month's challenge enticed me to design a quilt label for the placemat. And now that I have a label, don't you think it's about time to actually make a set of the placemats for our daughter and grandchildren to enjoy? Shhh, don't tell Grandpop, but I think I'll make one especially for him, too. I love designing quilts for the purpose of documenting family memories. click here to email Barbara |
For Eddie's Bear Paw label: "For my dear brother, Eddie: I hope this quilt brings you the same warmth and comfort that having you for a brother has brought my heart and soul. May God keep you and bless you. -Sissy -Rose McKinley 2002." @ 7" x 7" This label was made for my brother's bear paw quilt. He is color blind ---- so grays. The quilt has a border of HST. I just shrunk it to 1" squares for the label. The fabric in the file is the same fabric I used on the quilt and label. I have attached a picture of the quilt in the pictures tab. The real label: Created in Microsoft Publisher. Used a script font, and typed. Printed on to computer transfer paper and ironed onto the material. The virtual label: Created in Microsoft Publisher. Inserted the material as a bitmap. Created the script in a text box. Saved as a bitmap and imported as a picture into EQ. This was my first submission to a challenge. Great fun!!!! Mt. Danny label: " 'If you are able, save for them a place inside of you and save on backward glance when you are leaving the places they can no longer go. Be not ashamed to say you loved them, though they may not have always. Take what they have taught you with their dying and keep it with your own. And in that time when men decide and feel safe to call the war insane, take one moment to embrace those gentle heroes you left behind.' Major Michael Davis O'Donnell 1 January 1970 Dak To, Vietnam, Listed as KIA February 7, 1970" This label was made for my brother who served in Viet Nam. His wife placed all his medals in a shadow box with this print. It actually looks like Danny. The quilt design was taken from some old revolutionary war quilts and the letters from some other misplaced pattern. A picture of the quilt is in the pictures tab. I made the label by using a computer transfer product and ironing on to muslin, then I applicaed to to the quilt. I signed the quilt on the backing using a pigma pen. Mt. Laurel, NJ (25 Miles east of Philadelphia) click here to email Rose |

Twisted Sun Quilt Label label: "Quilt name: Created by: Date:" I have never made quilt labels before - now I have lots of new ideas! I modified a block I created from last month's challenge and decided to play with color shading. I created text in MS Paint and imported the bitmap. I then added the text image and motifs to layer 2. click here to email Enid |

Wedding Quilt Label label: "Wedding Quilt Hand Appliqued and Hand Quilted by Joanne For the Wedding of Stephanie and Aaron July 12, 2003" I'm in the process of making a hand appliqued and quilted quilt for my daughter's wedding. I will use this label for it, in all probability. I will just print as is unto fabric, I think. Joanne, Illinois. |

Free Spirit label: "Dear Julie, Watching you grow is one of life's joys. Aunt Sherry March, 2003" I copied the Butterfly clip art from MS Word into Paint, added the message, and saved as a bitmap. Under the Block menu I imported the butterfly and text bitmap for tracing and traced the butterfly to create the butterfly motifs. I imported the butterfly and text bitmap and placed it as a picture in layer 2. I then scattered the butterfly motifs around in layer 2. click here to email Sherry |
My Sister, My Friend label: "Kimberly, You've grown from being my pesky little sister to being my best friend. Love, Kelly March, 2003" I opened the picture in MS Paint, added the text and saved as a bitmap. I imported the picture with text into EQ5 and placed it in Layer 2. In Layer 2 I added a spacer strip between the picture and text, and added the small Hearts and Fans motifs. click here to email Sherry |
