Club EQ Album: November 2002 Challenge: Superimpose Blocks! Page 5

"Explore the EQ Block Library and find two blocks that can be superimposed to create an entirely new block. This can be a really fun thing to do and something you might not think to do without the computer to help you! Start by looking at blocks with similar grids. You can explore further by getting bold about what you combine.

The superimposing or overlaying of one block design over another can be done in the Edit mode from the Sketchbook. Save two blocks into the project Sketchbook. Edit one and select all the lines. Copy. Then Paste those lines over another block drawing that you have selected to Edit from the Sketchbook. Carefully center one over the other and look for design elements to highlight with color."

Spools and Snake Trail #1

From BlockBase, I began with Brackman's block #1681b - the Spool Block then used an overlay of block #3352 - Snake Trail. By using the symmetry tool, I flipped the blocks until I discovered this design. JoAnn Banks Sandy, Utah USA jojobutton@aol.com

It's an impression of what t it would be like to be up several stories in a steel skyscraper that was under construction ... looking down on yellow cabs and busy traffic on the ground.

Jewels in the Spiderwebs

designed by Ethel Mecklem Astoria, Oregon dmeckle@pacifier.com For this design I combined the Broken Spider Web block and the Jewel Star block to come up with "Jewels in the Spider Webs." For the border I deleted some of the lines on one side of the combined block and colored the background black to make them look like the quilt center is floating on the black background. Then I completed the design with a plain mitered border.

Walking Peony

Designed by Ethel Mecklem Astoria, Oregon dmeckle@pacifier.com This design is made up of blocks combining the Walking X block and the Paducah Peony block. I deleted a few lines in each block and arrived at this design which I set on point. I selected some motifs from the appliqué library for the borders and colored them to go with the center blocks. This has been an interesting challenge and I have really enjoyed it. The problem has been which of my many experiments to enter
