Club EQ Album: November 2002 Challenge: Superimpose Blocks! Page 2

"Explore the EQ Block Library and find two blocks that can be superimposed to create an entirely new block. This can be a really fun thing to do and something you might not think to do without the computer to help you! Start by looking at blocks with similar grids. You can explore further by getting bold about what you combine.

The superimposing or overlaying of one block design over another can be done in the Edit mode from the Sketchbook. Save two blocks into the project Sketchbook. Edit one and select all the lines. Copy. Then Paste those lines over another block drawing that you have selected to Edit from the Sketchbook. Carefully center one over the other and look for design elements to highlight with color."

Star Dance

This block was made combining Shoofly and The Priscilla blocks. I looked at it and saw stars! This was my first challenge. Amy Robertson Fremont, Nebraska amyrobertson@neb.rr.com

Silk Tulle on Tile

This is the simple Nine Patch Chain with a portion of the Daisy Petal Fan block superimposed. I usually design something new for a challenge. It's odd to feel so creative with this one when I actually didn't design anything myself! Daphne Stewart Sunnyside, Washington stewartld@bentonrea.com.

Winter Carnival

This is a combination of the Economy II block and Flowering Snowball, alternated with Flowering Snowball alone. I see many possibilities with this technique. Good for Barb Vlack for having the whim to combine blocks! Daphne Stewart Sunnyside, Washington stewartld@bentonrea.com

Fall Migration Starts

The 2 superimposed blocks are Dutchman's Puzzle and 4 Patch var. from EQ5. I saw butterflies, geese and pinwheels that suggested the gathering of geese and monarch butterflies plus the eddies of fall winds. It certainly is busy! Jane Turgeon - turgeon@sympatico.ca

"I Wish I Had A Calico Cat"

Okay, your probably sick of seeing my variations on this block, but I was having sooooooo much fun that I had to draw up this adorable quilt- EVERYone knows that cats and quilts just GO together, and although my quilty kitties may not be calicos, the pieced stars certainly are. :) Oh, yeah- this one was definitely a family project, so it's rather special to me. My 5 and 6 year old sons helped me color all the blocks, and they have become very interested in learning to use this program!

Translucent Stars

Pam Smolek Corunna, Michigan pssmolek@yahoo.com I wanted the patches on this quilt to look like they overlapped. I'm new to EQ (only had it since August), but hopefully before long, I'll be able to add fancy borders. I find this so much fun!

Petals & Peels

Pam Smolek Corunna, Michigan pssmolek@yahoo.com After combining these blocks, the quilt looked bare, so I added the appliqué petals on the edges of each block.
