Club EQ Album: November 2002 Challenge: Superimpose Blocks! Page 1

"Explore the EQ Block Library and find two blocks that can be superimposed to create an entirely new block. This can be a really fun thing to do and something you might not think to do without the computer to help you! Start by looking at blocks with similar grids. You can explore further by getting bold about what you combine.

The superimposing or overlaying of one block design over another can be done in the Edit mode from the Sketchbook. Save two blocks into the project Sketchbook. Edit one and select all the lines. Copy. Then Paste those lines over another block drawing that you have selected to Edit from the Sketchbook. Carefully center one over the other and look for design elements to highlight with color."

Diamonds in the Goose Pond

St. Charles, Illinois Borders bring out elements from the Diamonds in the Goose Pond block, which is made by superimposing an 8-Point Diamond block over a Goose in the Pond block. Coloring was scrappy and highlighted the diamonds in the patchwork. The alternate block was found when the 8-Point Diamond block was set on-point with an overall layout. The 9-Patch center was added to complement the Diamonds in the Goose Pond block.

Circle of Friendship

The blocks are a combination of the shoo fly and Chicago Star. I call it "Flying Chicago Star." I really like the way the center looks like a Friendship Star. This project was really easy to do!

Holiday Star

The block is a combination of 12 Triangles Block and Providence Quilt Block. I figured since the block is so intricate - I know I wouldn't want to make more than one for a quilt so it is one large block set on point with sashing and cornerstones.

First Star I see Tonight

spins around on this little wonder. Are the stars red, or are they pink? Might be good in blue, too.

Shaded Star of the Future

For this quilt I used one block -- which I designed from the World Without End Variation and Quarter Cabin blocks from the EQ5 library. I was both surprised & pleased with what happened in my block and quilt. Janice Kreuzinger Lutz, FL USA kreuzinger@earthlink.net
