| "In EQ5 there are some layouts in the Layout Library to make your designing challenge a lot easier. All you have to do is insert some coordinating blocks! In EQ4, you may work a bit more, but it's quite doable with multiple borders and/or Country Set (aka Custom Set in EQ5)." |

Currants and Coxcombs This is one of my favorite traditional applique blocks. I used elements from the block from the EQ5 Library to create a vine and the quilting stencil. Pairing applique borders with pieced borders gives a nice balance. St. Charles, Illinois USA cptvdeo@inil.com |

Wild Windmill This quilt was designed especially for the August 2002 ClubEQ Challenge. The layout I used came from EQ5 Layout Libraries, Basics by Style, On-Point Medallion (first one in second row). The names of lushious fabrics I used are: "Bali Handpaints" by Hoffman, " Scroll" and "Designer Essentials" by Jennifer Sampau, and "Mable Mates" by Moda. gilstad@texas.net |

Four Seasons of the Apple Tree I started out with a Medallion layout from the EQ Library - Horizontal - Center - Medallion - 8, mainly because I liked the look of that layout. Then I think the fabric was the deciding factor for the theme I chose for this quilt -- J.Apple 'n Bee orchard by Carol Endres. I changed the layout to an on-point center because of my chosen tree block which I then placed on layer 2. I coloured some of the trees with solid fabrics rather than all prints in order to save on the file size -- originally I had used all from the Stash CD but the file was very large. Royal Elements I have always loved birds in the air used as outside borders. And when I saw this block and put it in one of the medallion layouts in EQ5 I knew it was right! Somehow the colors just fell right into place also. I struggled with a name. The ring of stars made me think of sister's, reunions and nature. The colors seemed "royal" to me. As my mind kept whirling I finally decided on Royal Elements. Lake Villa, IL click here to email Dawn |
A Lot of Parts Make a Whole For lack of a better name all I could think of were so many parts of stars, and only 1 whole one! I stuck to the basic red, white and blue - a bit of 4th of July left over in me. Lake Villa, IL click here to email Dawn |
Star Squared I had such fun with this challenge. I love Medallion Quilts and the new layout libraries are wonderful to use as a starting point in creating Medallion style quilts. There are lots of neat blocks to choose from in creating one of these interesting configurations when using the layout library quilts. Astoria, Oregon click here to email Ethel |

Feathered Star Burst I used another of the designs in the layout library for this quilt. I love the look of the Kaledoscope it gives used in a star layout. The fabrics give it an irredescent look and I really love the combinations of colors in this particular design. Astoria, Oregon click here to email Ethel |

Radiance I have just taken a class on the feathered Star. Since I only plan to make one of them, this challenge is an opportunity to use my star as the center of a medallion quilt. I drew the swag border. The rest of the blocks and the border were in Blockbase and the EQ library. Brockport, New York click here to email Linda |

Tryin' to Keep Cool Ah, the summer heat must be getting to me! When I first saw all the fish in the Appliqué library, I knew I had to find an excuse to use one in a design. I even managed to use the Water Lilies and Reeds. I used one of the On-Point Medallions from the Layout Library. I don't know why, but looking at the quilt makes me smile...I like all the bright colors and that friendly Angel Fish face. anotherpat@aol.com click here to download the project file |

Galaxy Window I just got EQ5 a couple days ago and already I'm hooked! I chose my layout (On-Point Medallions - 15) and blocks randomly and just went nuts. I will likely never actually make this into an actual quilt (it kind of screams out "piecing nightmare" to me), but anyone else crazy enough to want to make this one for real may contact me for more info: soozmail@earthlink.net Looking forward to next month's challenge! |

Heart of Texas To develop the center, I took a photograph of a map, then used EQ to trace the borders. I divided up the motif so that it would resemble the Texas flag. If you look closely at the Ohio Star border you will see that I changed the corners so that they would also resemble the Texas flag. Somerville, TX pjautry@aol.com |

Two in the Bush.... Jan McAllister's Purple Pansy Party Reworked on 06/22/02 by Mary Endres My friend Jan and I were experimenting with the Wreathmaker tool when we came up with the Pansy ring. I was having so much fun with the medallion settings that I had to do a different one with these birds! |
