Club EQ Album: February 2002 Challenge: Multicolors and Sister's Choice!

"In the 5-Patch category of Classic Pieced blocks in the EQ Library, there is an interesting block called Sister’s Choice (near the end of the block display), which is also known as Four X Star (at the beginning of the block display). Color this block with many colors and be creative with your quilt settings. Here is a wonderful opportunity to experiment with different color schemes using three or more colors. There are enough patches in this block to accommodate some challenging arrangements of colors. It’s okay to combine this block with others for your quilt designs."

Diamonds Are My Sister's Choice

Setting was designed to illustrate ways to use an odd number of blocks with some simple fillers. Not every space in the grid needs to be filled with a block!

Film at 10

A design to use multicolor blocks in a very graphic black, white, and gray setting. The black and white checkerboard reminded me of a film strip.

Order in the
Midst of Chaos

Putting a lot of multi-colored blocks together into one quilt top does not have to be chaotic. There is order here with a definite pattern to the block layout. Look for the "X" created by the blocks.

Sister's Puzzle

This is a 'skewed' Sister's Choice block. I rotated the block 22% then added a few lines, colored and set into the quilt. Every other block is also flipped.

Add, Subtract,
Multiply, and Divide

The red and orange patches look like + sign, the green patches look like a - sign, the blue patches form an X, and the green and light florals are similar to an old fashioned division sign.

"IN THE SUNSET"

I really had a great time creating this one. Only one "sister choice"-block is used. Then it was so fun to play with all the different size of the borders. Suddenly when I played - there was a boat sailing into the sunset! It wasn´t meant to be, but I thought it look great so I coloured the sunset orange-red… What do you think?

Sisterly Togetherness

I found a similar block (Fool's Square) in EQ4 to the Sister's Choice block we were to use for this months challenge. When I combined these two blocks and set them on point I received a very interesting effect.

"My sister in the corner"

In this quilt I only used one of the little "sister choice" block. All the other are from the library, except from the yellow ones. I used Easydraw to make them..

Midnight Dreams

This is my first attempt to do an EQ-challenge. I love these blue colours. I think this would make a lovely wallhanging or a tablecloth.

Grandma's Crocheted Tablecloth

Designing this quilt was pure joy as it fell out of my subconscious into my lap in a flash of recognition. Playing with color - Sisters Choice

I had fun playing around with color arrangement for Sisters Choice. It was a fun project. I threw a few spikes into it too.

My Sister is 3D!

I love the sisters choice block, so I really got excited about this challenge. I decided to challenge myself further by working with the 3D technique. I am learning!

Patriotic Sister

This quilt started out as a traditional one, but when I finished coloring it, I saw the secondary design pop out! I love these sort of surprises!

Sisters Blocks

I usually like to use fabrics but this time I thought I would use just solids. I also though I would make it wide instead of long.

My Funny Valentine

Sister's Choice and
Fanny's Fan
I used two blocks from EQ4.1 one the required block and the other Fanny's Fan my choice. I was hoping that using the same fabric in the sashes would kind of hide them, but it didn't. I wish I could have deleted the sashing altogether but no matter what I did the sashes showed up.Really so much fun doing these Challenges. Oh yes, at least I got away from using my autumn colours. A late Happy Valentines to all

For this choice I decided to work just with Sister's Choice and Plain Blocks, I felt the motifs brought the quilt together. Having a great time working in layers.

I Can't Think
Of A Clever Name

I spent most of the time with the continuous feather quilting design (not with the challenge block :-)). I really had to try Maria's way of combining two blocks on the worktable. I never thought a continous design was possible with EQ. Some feathers still need work on their placement before I would use them on a real quilt, but I am quite pleased with the result.
