Club EQ Album: September 2000 Challenge: Nine Patch!

"Use a 9-Patch or two or several in your quilt design, somehow, somewhere. It can be incorporated as a part of another block, stand beside setting blocks or sashings, or hide in a corner of an appliqué layout. It does not have to be the dominant block..."

-Barb Vlack

BarbV, IL Sash and Block Based on the block pattern #1073 from Barbara Brackman's Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns (it's not in BB1). The 8-pointed stars were drafted as appliqué motifs in PatchDraw so I could set them in Country pourposes only (an 8-point star is more accurately drawn in EasyDraw for piecing).
BarbV,IL FarmYard This is a result of a 9-Patch block exchange with the theme "Funny Farm". I ahve a collection of 9-patch blocks with novelty prints related to farm things, so this virtual quilt has a definite future for being made into real. It was designed with 6' 9-Patch blocks in mind. the "Hole in the Barn Door" and "Farmer's Daughter" blocks were redesigned to incorporate the 9-Patches. When I make this quilt for real, I might also add (foundation) pieced farm animals in place of a few of the scarecrows.

This Quilt was designed for my friend Nacny, she wanted a "Nine Patch" Quilt that did not look like a "Nine Patch" Quilt. And wanted me to design it for her as she watched. She found this "Garden Patch" block in the EQ4 Nine Patch Stars Library while looking through my EQ4 Block Book trying to make up her mind whether to purchase EQ4 or not. She did!! Autumn Storm Based on a traditional Storm-at-Sea Block. I have to tell you EQ the Mouse really didn't like the skewed nine patch blocks. We saw the "Ill-Eagle" more times than I want to think about. (But I got the disign DONE --VBG) Designed by Jo moury@spot.com

Autumn Reflections Pam miller.pl@gte.net I started with Contrary Wife, added a nine-patch in one corner and half-square trianges in two opposite corners and then rotated the block around the nine-patch corner. Ask for September 2000 Challenge project file.
Checkerboard Paths This is my interpertation of a quilt made in 1868 by Josephine Merrill of Berkshire County for her brother Charles E. Merrill. The original quilt used a feather quilting around the blooks. There was more space between the squares.

Grandma Loves Kitties This is a VERY simple design using the beloved 9-patch. I call it "Grandma Loves Kitties" and I plan to do this quilt for my dear Grandma in pastel calicos and unbleached muslin. It wasn't much of a challenge but would be a nice simple design for a beginner. I will do the kitties and the hearts with the paper-piece patterns in my EQ. Club EQ September Challenge I designed this quilt for the 9 Patch Chllenge using EQ blocks & modifying them. I designed the border using The Pricilla block & deleted lines as needed to achieve the resulting border. Any resemblance to another quilt is purely coincidental, I have never seen it!
