05barbv1.gif BarbV IL When Lilacs Last in the Back Yard Bloomed This is a theme quilt developed around a garden gate. The center block is adapted from Rita Denenberg's appliqué Garden Gate block. I added her Lilacs, which I made into appliqué motifs. Actually, I was thinking more of wisteria than lilacs, for the same block reminded me of both. I followed the multiple border building formula I use when I teach my Head for the Borders! class: first border is triangles, second is vining, third is pieced blocks, and fourth is swag. 0005barb.zip, which contains 05barbv.pj4, available for download at the clubEQ webpage.
05barbv2.gif BarbV IL Stars on the Prairie I used my guild's logo, which we call the Prairie Star, fractured it, stretched it, and adapted it. I played with the color augmentations we can use with EQ4.1 and did graded colors between the red/rust and the deep teal and the gold. Because the entire piece is so angular with pieces, I used a curvy quilting pattern over all as a complement. I love the way all the shapes were able to be carried through to the last border and even the quilting design. 0005barb.zip, which contains 05barbv.pj4, available for download at the clubEQ webpage.

05paul.gif Pauline Grandview ID I've looked forward to doing one of these Challenges every since I got my EQ4 but didn't think I could do one. Then Barb comes along with Multiple Borders and I can do this. barza_1@yahoo.com

05peggy.gif Peggy Boerne, Tx This quilt is already into cloth and ready to be quilted. It is for our youngest daughter for Christmas...who knows maybe this year the top and next year the quilting. sootie@gvtc.com Ask for May 2000 clubEQ challenge project file.
05pat.gif Pat FL I used BarbV's formula for muliple borders: 1st border - triangles, 2nd border - vining, 3rd border - pieced blocks 4th border - swag. It worked! Fabrics from EQ designer fabrics - Benartex Benarbasics. Most blocks from EQ libraries. Some angular & swag blocks were drawn. 0005pat.zip, which contains 05pat.pj4, available for download at the clubEQ webpage.
05eileen.gif Eileen Old Saybrook, CT Here is my May project. I was playing around with the wreaths and some of my favorite colors and fabrics after Christmas 1999 when I designed this madallion. When the May Challenge required a project with several borders, a project in which one person created a round robin by his or herself, I decided to use this earlier project. I titled it Mother's Day because the ribbons, bows and flowers reminded me of the things my mother loved. It is a tribute to a woman I greatly admired and loved and who was my inspiration for wife, mother, and grandmother. The Twisted Ribbon by Dorothy Milligan, the Fancy Bow by Judy Sogn and the swag border by Debbie Reed for the Swag Challenge. but I modified by adding a flower as the corner block. ekallen@snet.net Ask for May 2000 clubEQ challenge project file.

05carol.gif Carol Davenport, IA Owls Around Eleanor Burns gave me the first idea. It was expanded when I saw Fons and Porter do a British frame quilt. The centers of the square-in-square, the goose blocks, and the centers of the log cabin are fussy cut from fabric with owls. I intend to finish this one for our fall quilt show this year. Bear's Paw and borders are left to do. cabaldry@home.com Ask for May 2000 clubEQ challenge project file.

05jk1.gif JoAnn I tried to stay as simple as I could with this one all these borders wouldn't clash. It gave me a little practice drawing my hibiscus in patch draw. Joannk@aol.com Ask for May 2000 clubEQ challenge project file.

05chark Charlotte Manitoba, Canada "Guardians of the Box" - The dragon block was the result of my trying to learn how to trace bitmaps in Patchdraw. I got the pattern from the book "The Crafter's Pattern Sourcebook" by Mary MacCarthy. I had fun drawing it. Everything seemed to go so smoothly. Then I decided to try it out in a baby block setting and I liked how the dragons seemed to curl around the block-from there the different borders seemed to evolve. hkleiner@netcom.ca Ask for May 2000 clubEQ challenge project file.
05brigit.gif Brigitte Germany I got the idea doing a 'mandala' design in EQ4 by the book of Sheila Finklestein 'Magic Quilted Mandala'. After designing the center-mandala I had to find a surrounding for the center that would make it shine. After giving it a lot of different approaches I finally decided for this one which seems to me "complete". wolbriotto@t-online.de Ask for May 2000 clubEQ challenge project file.

05hanne.gif Hanne Norway I love Sunflowers very much, and it had to be a Sunflower in this design, anticipating summer as I am! This is my own design, using only one block, Kaleidoscope, from EQ Library. It was great fun playing around with borders! This is my first challenge, but not my last :o)) hanneschreinert@c2i.net

05dotm.gif Dorothy This quilt was originally designed before it was possible in EQ and was still a challenge in EQ4. The real quilt won first place at the local fair, third place for hand quilting at the local guild show in 1999, and was a finalist in "House of Fabrics" last contest in 1998. dorothym@ivic.net Ask for May 2000 clubEQ challenge project file.

05janna.gif Janna I don't know what to say about this design other than it was inspired by a plate I noticed in the background of a politicians office, while watching TV. (always studying those interiors!!!) reinbro@earthlink.net Ask for May 2000 clubEQ challenge project file.
05pb.gif Pauline "Tai Chi 2000" - an original design based on a quilt I made for my Tai Chi instructor in 1995. The "John Flynn" outside border would be constructed in diagonal sections (not as illustrated in the EQ blocks I have drawn). The Chinese characters were traced from images scanned into my computer and imported into EQ Patch Draw. buckle7@attglobal.net Ask for May 2000 clubEQ challenge project file.
05irene.gif Irene in Northern California I've attached a very simple border to my quilt. I've learned a lot in doing this - I'm a newcomer to using EQ4. ErenQ@earthlink.net
