January 2000 Challenge: Quilting Stencils! (Page 1)

"Use a stencil you draw or one from the EQ4 Library to enhance a quilt that you design. Don't forget border possibilities! Submit designs for quilting in blocks, in corners, sashes, and/or borders. Your choice." - Barb Vlack

I aimed to center the feather quilting stencil, from the EQ4 Block Library, Quilting Stencils, Feathers on the middle stripe of the border.

For the second border, I chose a 1" width and the Triangle Out border style. I clicked on the arrow until I got 20 for the number of blocks horizontal and vertical, which gives me 20 prairie point triangles per side.

This is a quilt full of rich regal colors (my favorite) to start out the new year. I used the center block as a stencil in itself, and I modified a stencil from the eq library.

This is a quilt I actually finished for a Christmas present this past December - the cloth hung around soooooo long that I named the quilt "Finally Moonbeams."

This was the first time I played with this part of EQ and I learned that there are still a lot of EQ functionality I need to learn more about.

I sure had fun making this wallhanging for my DH for Christmas. It could also be used for a Valentine's Day gift! It is reverse appliquéd.

Well, we all survived Y2K! I doodled in PatchDraw and used WreathMaker to make a 4 cluster block. Converted the WreathMaker block into "guides" then traced a stencil from it. Then, I had fun playing with the stencil and the original doodle.

Original design that I accomplished by scanning fabric, simplifying the design, and duplicating and rotating with the WreathMaker tool.

I love the designer fabrics that I am always looking for a reason to use them. I chose the Double Wedding ring to use for my base to put the stencils on. All the blocks and patterns are from the EQ libraries. What a great source of inspiration.

This is an actual quilt that I am hand quilting. I used EQ4 to help me decide how to do the quilting and printed some of the quilting stencils to use in my quilt. I was working on using this stencil layer before I saw this month's challenge and knew I had to send it in.

This is my first attempt at an abstract design. I wanted to create the illusion of light and shadow, trees and flowers, and the heat of a summer day using blocks of color and quilting. I think it would be fun to make this quilt using fusible appliqué and machine quilting.

I still say that Barb is a mind-reader because I had just done this design without the quilting and was kind of waiting for inspiration. What I was actually waiting for, of course, was for Barb, lol. Although the arrangement is my own, the actual block design was done by Beth Maddocks and is on her PieceByNumber website. It is the Venetian Chain block and I found the link on the EQ website. She very graciously granted me permission to post the project for the challenge. As far as giving the project file to those who ask for it, I would be more than willing to share but feel I must ask Beth if that's okay with her. I will get back with you about that.

I actually worked on this one a while ago as a possibility for Jenni's wedding quilt but it fit in perfectly with this month's challenge. Now to stop playing with it and get it made!
My offering for Jan. 2000 Challenge is actually a combination of WreathMaker & quilting stencil.

I have always been drawn to Sashiko designs, so found that this challenge was perfect for trying out some of the designs. Most of the blocks were already in EQ, but I also gave a try at drawing out some of my own from designs in books.

This quilt reminds me of Mediterranean tile. The stencil is bits
and pieces from some of the stencils in the eq libraries.

I intended it to be a table runner, however the size will have
to be reworked, as it turned out to be rather large!
